8 Academic Year (AY) Planning Parameters
STARTING FALL 2017 SEMESTER New fourth-class cadets (other than fall sports participants) report on Saturday, August 12 Returning upper-class cadets report on Sunday, August 20 Classes begin on Wednesday, August 23 DETERMINING LENGTH OF SEMESTER SACS requires at least 42 class meeting (14 weeks) At least one week is provided for examinations One week of furlough for Corps of Cadets at Thanksgiving + one week in the spring term STARTING SPRING 2018 SEMESTER At least three weeks provided for Winter Furlough (December 14, 2017 – January 7, 2018) Classes begin on Wednesday following the Corps return [January 10, 2018] Cadets do not return on Sunday before the Monday of Martin Luther King Day (January 15, 2018) Corps of Cadets has a full week for Spring Furlough beginning the week following Corps Day and including Easter when practical – on the front end [Easter is 1 April 2018] At least 4 academic class weeks follow the spring furlough [March 26-April 24=4 weeks, 2 days] LEGISLATED IMPACTS ON ACADEMIC YEAR Holiday on Martin Luther King Day [January 15, 2018] – NO CLASSES COLLEGE EVENT IMPACTS ON ACADEMIC YEAR PM classes cancelled on Friday, October 6, 2017 [Parent’s Weekend]; no classes on Leadership Day, October 18, 2017; and no PM classes Friday, March 9, 2018 [Leadership Symposium] Fall Semester Exams begin on Thursday, 7 December 2017
