8 Academic Year (AY) Planning Parameters
STARTING FALL 2015 SEMESTER New fourth-class cadets (other than fall sports participants) report on Saturday, August 15 Returning upper-class cadets report on Sunday, August 23 Classes begin on Wednesday, August 26 DETERMINING LENGTH OF SEMESTER SACS requires at least 42 class meeting (14 weeks) At least one week is provided for examinations One week of furlough for Corps of Cadets at Thanksgiving STARTING SPRING 2016 SEMESTER At least three weeks provided for Winter Furlough (December 16, 2015 – January 10, 2016) Cadets do not return on Sunday before the Monday of Martin Luther King Day (January 18, 2016) Classes begin on Wednesday after cadets return Corps Day is celebrated on the week end of or preceding March 20 (March 18-20, 2016) Corps of Cadets has a full week for Spring Furlough beginning the week following Corps Day and including Easter when practical [Easter, March 27, is at the front end of the furlough] LEGISLATED IMPACTS ON ACADEMIC YEAR No Election Day scheduled Holiday on Martin Luther King Day [January 18, 2016] COLLEGE EVENT IMPACTS ON ACADEMIC YEAR PM classes cancelled on Friday, October 9, 2015 [Parent’s Weekend]; no classes on Leadership Day, October 21, 2015; and no PM classes Friday, March 18, 2016 [Leadership Symposium] Fall Semester Exams begin on Thursday, December 10, 2015
