7. Where did the Common Core standards come from?
Council of Chief State School Officers and National Governors Association Center for Best Practices, teachers, school administrators, and experts worked together to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare students for college and workforce.

Who is creating them? SMARTER-Balanced Assessment Consortium Who else is using these tests? Currently 29 states What is the purpose? To develop a comprehensive and innovative assessment system for grades 3-8 and grade 11 in English Language Arts and Mathematics aligned to the Common Core Standards so that students leave high school prepared for post secondary success in college or a career. What will happen to CSTs? These tests will replace CST, CMA, and STS. We will take the last STAR assessments in the spring of 2014.

This is our site Staff Development plan. The program Live! was purchased through an Innovation in Technology grant from STAPLES. This will enable us to connect all eleven elementary schools for common staff development. I will facilitate at the district which be viewed through an LCD hooked up to a computer. Principals will facilitate at each site. Each site will have a camera and microphone and log onto the program through a computer. Teachers can ask questions via the computer at the site and we will all share a common message about CCSS. Listed are our three areas of focus this year. In the future we can connect a grade level in the same way. For example we could have a session with all grade 3 teachers to calibrate the scoring of a type of writing.

This is our district plan. It would be helpful to have your PLC leaders share which team they are working with so everyone knows about the representation at your site (have all the Math Team stand, ELA, Writing, Kinder leaders)
We will have Nancy Fetzer come on November 9th for Common Core writing with kindergarten. This is the only date she had available this year and it was a cancellation so we were very lucky to get her. In September of 2013 I have scheduled Nancy to come for grades The afterschool workshops are voluntary and will provide teachers with practical instruction ideas for the Math practice standards and Reading and Writing information text. Teachers may come to the district to be in the room with the presenters or view it through Live! at their site. The trainings will be archived in Safari Montage so teachers can view them anytime after the presentation. All handouts will be available with the Live! Presentation.
