24 Learning Support Mrs. Karen Gilby: Head of Learning Support
Support available for students Assessed by Mrs. Gilby who works closely with subject teachers / teacher aides to determine entry to GST option (Guided Study) Some students may take 2 years to achieve NCEA Level 1. Support also linked to Assessment conditions allowed to students by NZQA.

25 Work habits Goal – To build on already established good work habits
Transition however from parent / teacher driven study to student driven study (Transition is not always easily achieved!) Important to recognise changing roll of Parents.

26 Ideal Work habits Importance of quality results achieved by -
Good time management / planning skills Work completed on time Work assignments not left to last minute Homework patterns clearly established Homework completed regularly (every day) School time is guarded and not used for ‘social’ activities Regular attendance at school Family holidays need to be kept to the holidays (NCEA assessment can not be re-scheduled for family holidays!)

27 Parent Support Success is achieved with Students / Parents / Teachers working together (use of s of real value) Goal to be fair BUT firm. Genuine excuses are always valid and respected, but it is important to remember what message is being given to the students. If students get away with ‘soft’ excuses in Y10 – they will expect the same ‘success’ in later years.
