A student has 3 years to achieve graduation starting in grade 10. If students do not achieve graduation by the end of the grade 12 year, further courses will be available at Central Schools in Kelowna, NOT at RSS.

15 ENGLISH English 10 / 11 / 12 Communications 12 English Literature 12
These are academic English courses, required for university entrance and for some college and technical programs. The focus is on literature and writing. Communications 12 These are modified or easier English courses for students who may struggle with regular English classes. They do satisfy graduation requirements. Communications will prepare students for many Trades Programs at the college level. English Literature 12 This is an in-depth study of English Literature and an excellent preparation for post-secondary studies. Creative Writing 12 The focus is on creative writing and the exploration of various genres of writing. This is not considered an academic 12 by the Universities.

Social Studies 11 Choices: Comparative Cultures 11 BC First Peoples 11 Human Geography 11 Political Studies 11 History 11 *A SS 11 is the prerequisite for History 12, Law 12 and Comparative Civilizations 12. *

Science 10 is a prerequisite for all Grade 11 Science options. Science and Technology 11 A non-academic and hands-on Science 11. Does not meet university entrance requirements but is fine for graduation. Earth Science 11 An academic science. Biology 11 / 12

18 SCIENCES Chemistry 11 / 12 An academic science and a strong math background needed! Foundations of Math and Pre-Calculus 10 minimum. Physics 11 / Physics 11 AP1 (Covers Physics 11, 12 and AP1) An academic science and a strong math background needed! FMP 10 minimum. Recommended to take Pre-Calculus 11 before or concurrently with Physics 11. Environmental Sciences 12 An interest based science course with an AP Option.

25 What about a Language? ~ Great idea!
BUT is a 2nd language required ?? For graduation? No For trades or vocational programs? No For university entrance? Maybe It depends on if you go straight to university from high school, the program you choose and the university / college you attend. It’s a good idea to keep your options open, especially if you are doing a Bachelor of Arts!

33 External Credits A student can earn school credits for some specific programs: Driver Training Course Girl Guides / Cadets Provincial & National level sport teams NLS & Bronze Cross (swimming) Royal Conservatory Music levels * Credits are given for SPECIFIC levels of participation as determined by the Ministry of Education. Check with your counsellor.

All course offerings depend upon having enough students to make them viable. What are you REALLY prepared to do?
