Our networks wanted to learn how to improve their links with schools across the World. We were able to show case how we have established this at Millbrook through our partnership with Emily and her team. As a result, network schools joined British Council Schools Online, Etwinning and some even submitted their own bids for Key Action 1 and 2 of Erasmus. 12 Impact of International Linking
Forging student-led partnerships & embedding work across the curriculum We partnered with L’ecole de courcelles le gisors in Amiens, France. Together both schools studied World War 1. The children even built a trench within the grounds of our school! This work culminated in a visit to Amiens to meet our French friends and visit the battlefields and graves. We took part in The Centenary of the Somme commemoration.

13 Making friends for life
French & Welsh students became close friends. They studied together and played together. Together the children created their own WWI museum in Amiens.

14 Impact of International Linking 2. Learning a modern foreign Language
We have an on-site Confucius Classroom. This provides us with the resources and expertise to teach Mandarin. To date, over 20 students have gained The Youth Chinese Test qualification In partnership with The Confucius Institute, Cardiff, we provide whole school workshop opportunities to experience Chinese culture. The whole school celebrates some key Chinese festivals: Mid Autumn Festival, Chinese New Year & The Dragon Boat festival.

15 Impact of International Linking
Erasmus Plus KA1 & KA2 successful collaboration & research Through our work with Emily and her team with have participated in various KA1 and KA2 collaborations. These have impacted positively on student, staff, family and whole community learning. Family Engagement Research Project An example of this is our work with schools in Cardiff, Ferrol in Northern Spain and Warsaw, Poland to research ways to improve family engagement in our schools. This led to whole school engagement and whole school improvement. Our reading café became a very successful tool to engage parents in reading as a result of this work. Staff, students , family members benefited from this work and enjoyed collaborating with our international partners.

16 Impact of International Linking
Year groups partnered with a country – global learning embedded across the school Work has enriched learning opportunities for all, making learning real - this is one of the pedagogical principles that underpin Successful Futures. Students have been able to make real life connections, learning about other countries and other cultures Staff professional development has significantly improved. All but one teacher has now embarked on some form of international research. As a result, the school has improved its practice and provision in a number of areas including: family engagement, outdoor learning, maths provision and pedagogy, historical study, literacy and leadership. We now have a Confucius classroom – a facility that enables our students to learn Mandarin and to learn about Chinese culture – over 20 have a recognised qualification. Standards in the school are in the upper quartiles and the school has been identified as “good” in a recent ESTYN inspection. “Provision for developing pupils’ understanding of global citizenship is highly successful. There are purposeful opportunities to learn about different cultures, particularly about the language and culture of China.” (ESTYN, Nov 2016)
