5 253V 242V 207V 220V What is Voltage Optimisation?
Voltage Optimisation is the concept of reducing the incoming voltage from the grid to achieve the optimum voltage for your equipment. 253V Maximum level supplied by the grid 242V The average level supplied by the grid in UK 220V The optimum voltage for equipment efficiency 207V Minimum level supplied by the grid

6 Why Voltage Optimisation?
Improve Energy Efficiency Reduce kWh Consumption Reduce Electricity Costs Reduce Capital Expenditure Reduce Carbon Emissions

7 The Technology To evaluate the potential of installing VO, we identify the types of load on site and categorise: VOLTAGE DEPENDENT: An electrical device whose power consumption varies with the voltage being supplied to it VOLTAGE INDEPENDENT: An electrical device whose power demand, within it’s designed operating range, is independent of supply voltage

8 Voltage Dependent Loads
Discharge Lighting 240V Halogen Lighting Fluorescent Lighting Magnetic Ballasts Refrigeration Loads Chillers AHU’s Ventilation Systems (without invertors or VSD’s) Motors/Pumps (without invertors or VSD’S) Lifts/Escalators (without invertors or VSD’s) Savings will vary on these types of loads. Lighting will offer 2% reduction in kWh per 1% reduction in voltage, whereas motors may only offer somewhere between 0.8% - 2% per 1% reduction, depending on motor size, how heavily it is loaded. Basically smaller lightly loaded motors offer higher savings than larger motors. Manufacturing Machinery (without invertors or VSD’s)

9 Voltage Independent Loads
LV Lighting Electronically Controlled Lighting Any motor load with invertors or VSD’s Electric Heating IT Equipment Other electrical equipment

10 The Evaluation Process
To evaluate the effectiveness of VO, we require: Energy usage HHD or Electricity Bills Maximum Demand Kwh Rate, (pence per unit) From this, we can do a quick desk-top survey and to provide indicative quote.

11 Indicative Quote - Example

12 The Evaluation Process
If this is of interest, we will do a full site survey to: Log the Voltage over 7 days Survey the site for the load profile and installation From the information gathered, we would then provide a firm proposal detailing the size and type of equipment, together with relevant warranties, actual savings and guarantees.
