Data Recording Challenges
Accurate and reliable data to improve process performance Visualization of the process Fast, easy data retrieval for review and reporting Documentation for regulatory compliance Secure data with secure access to prevent tampering Typical Applications Drying Ovens Environmental Monitoring Fermentation Processes Flow Monitoring Freeze Drying Retorts and Cooking Processes If we examine some of the challenges, we see that users face a number of issues when tying to see what is happening in their process and to document the results. These include: Ensuring that the data is accurate and reliable Analyzing the data quickly to know that the material has been processed properly Providing the required process documentation as proof or compliance to standard operating procedures On-going maintenance costs associated with process documentation Getting the data to those that need it – Supervisor, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Customer Paperless recorders provide many advantages for viewing and documenting what is happening in a process. One advantage is that the data is stored in an electronic format. Electronic data allows for faster, more comprehensive analysis of the data. It eliminates questions of data resolution, the need for interpolation of trace values from a chart and the associated errors of transferring the data to a spreadsheet for further analysis. In addition to the improvements in data reliability, the user also benefits from reduced maintenance costs resulting from the elimination of many of the mechanical parts such as chart drives and pen mechanism associated with conventional paper recorders. The elimination of consumables such as the charts, pens and ink wheels normally used by tradition paper recorders provides additional savings. Sintering Furnaces Heat Treating Power Monitoring

Secure And Reliable Electronic Data
Electronic recording with data encryption ensures trusted data Stored data tied to the recorder configuration for data security and definition of data attribute (i.e. lbs, psi, etc.) Expanded data storage capacity (4GB) for less servicing and fewer data downloads SD card provides improved security & future technology compatibility Authentication certification ensures secure communication CSV data export capability The Honeywell Trendview recorders provide secure, electronic data recording that makes it easy for the user to determine how well his process is performing. The electronic data eliminates hours of manual data analysis that paper chart records typically require with assured accuracy of the recorded data. All the recorders have the ESS optional feature that helps the recorder meet the requirements defined by 21 CFR Part 11 and insure the data is secure. This provides the ability to set up unique Users and their own password, set expiration times and reuse parameters as well as get an audit trail of actions of what is being changed. Up to 50 users can be set up with 4 different levels of access as well as the ability to define an Administrator level. The same level of data security exist regardless of which model is being used. The data is time and date stamped as part of the data integrity process and the recorders all use data encryption to maintain data security. The recorder set up and the electronic data files generated are tied together and tied to the internal serial number as an added security feature. An audit trail of actions performed are part of the recorder message system to track steps taken during the process.

Connectivity To Local And Remote Networks
Multiple ways to connect with recorder Standard Ethernet connectivity RS485 Modbus connectivity OPC server capability (thru PC) Remote Viewer & Control Remote access via internet for easy viewing Modbus Master Recorder runs communications, collecting data for other Modbus devices without an extra PC Real time & scheduled FTP data collection Secure communications with authentication between TrendServer and recorders Plant Wide Local Area Network Trend Server Pro (Client) Trend Server Pro (Server) The Trendview recorders offer many features that help connect the recorders to a network to make it easy to get data into and out of the recorder. They all have the capability to have front and rear USB ports that make it easy to connect such devices as USB memory keys, bar code readers, USB key boards and a mouse to the recorders. This makes it easy to enter messages, navigate around the screens or to load in new configurations or update the product’s firmware. The recorders have the capability to have Ethernet and RS485 communications Ethernet is standard on the recorders). The connectivity of the Trendview recorders makes it simple to gather data remotely or locally. The recorders have an integral OPC Server in the recorder that allows for direct connection of the recorder to an OPC Client to get data and alarms & events from the recorder. The Remote Viewer allows a user to view the recorder remotely using Microsoft’s standard Internet Explorer software and if enabled to actually take control and change screens and other parameters of the recorder. This allows users to see the data without physically going to the recorder. The recorder also support being a Modbus Master allowing them to get data from other network connected devices. This saves on having a separate PC having to act as a Master and running additional wiring to get the data as a direct recorder input. TrendServer is our PC software used to connect into the recorders to get real time and FTP data. TrendServer is set up in a Client Server relationship to allow other users to gain access to the data. TrendManager Recorder Support Update
With new release: Updated to support new GR Recorder release & configuration Updated for Secure Communications capability with recorder Updated to support Windows 2008 Server What is the benefit to the end user… Provides support for new recorders Configuration support Network connectivity and data collection Secure communication with new recorders Update for use with current version of Windows 2008 Server OS
17
Improved Installation
With previous releases: Time for install and configure TSP was quite long Could take more than 1 hour in our testing Post installation steps are manual, so error prone With new release: Steps to install are automated for all the supported OS Existing DCOM configuration steps have been analyzed automated Install shield upgrade to current revision level Faster installation (target is less than 5 mins) What is the benefit to the end user… Installation procedure improved More user friendly and less tedious Less prone errors during installation Faster installation, less time required
18
Enhanced Security With previous releases: With new release:
Does not comply with the latest IT security guidelines Requires Windows admin privileges to view the data in Win XP With new release: Non-Admin can use TMS in Win XP (like other supported OS) DCOM settings can done at the time of auto-installation TMS ApplicationAccessGroup is created, and privileges provided What is the benefit to the end user… TMS User Group provides improved security, now define the users who will have access Only defined users from the TMS User Group can view the data TMS application can be used in Session 0 as well
19
Commserver As A Service
With previous releases: CommServer operates as an application, stops when application is stopped Data acquisition not supported when the user is logged off Data collection would stop until the operator re-starts the application (would appear as a gap in real time data collection) User intervention required to start data acquisition after system reboots With new release: CommServer made as a service - logging is done un-interrupted when the system reboots FTP scheduler is also made as a service – FTP data collection restarts after reboot Introduction of session 0 allows services to start running on system boot-up without operator action What is the benefit to the end user… 24x7 data logging capability
20
Archiving The Database
With previous releases: Real time data logging interrupted to analyze archived data Several manual steps involved to access & view the archived DB With new release: User can configure archive databases and browse through the contents without interrupting real-time data collection Archived DB shall be shown separately from the current DB What is the benefit to the end user… No loss of data acquisition while viewing archived data Process is just like browsing thru any active database Easier understanding of the database being viewed (reduces errors)
21
TrendViewer Improvement
With previous releases: TrendViewer has to import every time we want to view the graph data With new release: TrendViewer can now save the last viewed graph data to database User can re-open TrendViewer and see the previous graph data Graph persists until a new import operation is done What is the benefit to the end user… Saves the need to re-import the same data each time
22
Additional Features With new release:
User can Save or Save-as the graph without exiting the graph dialog (previously, would be asked when closing graph) Pen scales will display if its historical or real-time data Provide guidelines to determine the optimal DB size and recommend that database be archived if the file size exceeds limits
