1 WELCOME TO LONDON!

2 London in the past London was founded by the Romans in the year 43.
It was called Londinium. Druids and other Kelts, lived around there before.

3 London in the past Many important kings and also queens lived in London

4 London in the past In 1605, Guy Fawkes planned to attack the parliament. The plan was known as the Gunpowder Plot Today in Britain people remember the failure of the plot by celebrating Guy Fawkes Day on November 5th.

5 London in the past In 1666, London was destroyed by the Great Fire…
The worst fire in the city of London. The city had to be rebuilt.

6 London in the present Trafalgar Square
There are always a lot of people and pigeons on the square. On New Year’s Eve people gather around a big Christmas tree from Norway. In the middle of the square there is Admiral Nelson’s Column To announce that London was Olympic city, a lot of TV were set in the square.

7 Buckingham Palace It´s used by Queen Elizabeth II as her official residence. It was built in 1703. The Queen´s Gallery exhibits drawings by Leonardo da Vinci.

8 The Queen of Great Britain
The Queen of Great Britain is Elizabeth II. Her husband is Duke of Edinburgh. They have got 4 grown-up children: Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

10 Westminster Abbey This is a church.
All English kings have been crowned and buried in the church since 1308.

11 Westminster Cathedral
It was built between 1895 and 1903. This is the seat of the Cardinal Archbishop and the leading Roman Catholic Church in England. Its bell tower is 84 metres high.

12 The Houses of Parliament
The Houses of Parliament stand on the left bank of the Thames River in London, England. The building is 280 metres long. There are more than 1000 rooms.

13 Big Ben People think Big Ben is the big clock tower, but it is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock. The tower of Big Ben is an important London landmark. Big Ben’s bells were silenced for a time during World War I.

14 Tower The Tower of London has been a fortress, a palace, an arsenal, a mint, a prison, an observatory, a zoo, the home of the Crown Jewels and a tourist attraction.

15 Imperial State Crown The Tower’s greatest treasure is the Imperial State Crown. There are diamonds on it.

16 Beefeaters The guards of the Tower are called Beefeaters.
The legend says that if the ravens leave, the Tower and the country will fall.

17 There are many ghost in the Tower
If you were accused of treason, your head would be separated from your body… Henry VIII killed most of his wives …

18 Tower Bridge The most famous bridge in London is the Tower Bridge.
Tower Bridge is a bascule-bridge. The bascules will open to let ships pass through.

19 St. Paul’s Cathedral St.Paul’s Cathedral is a famous building too.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana married here in 1981. It burned during the great fire in 1666.

20 Madame Tussauds Waxmuseum
In this museum you can see famous people made of wax. This is Henry VIII with his wives.

21 Double-deckers There are big red buses called double-deckers in London. People sit upstairs and downstairs on these buses. Tourists like them very much.

22 London Underground was the first underground in history
The tube London Underground was the first underground in history It’s huge!!!!!

23 Telephone booths From here you can call your friends.

24 River Thames Thames flows through London.
The River Thames is 338 km long. Even big seaships can visit London.

26 London in the future London held Olympic games in 2012.
SKYLINE London held Olympic games in 2012. There were many buildings under construction. Currently, there are 17 skyscrapers in London that reach a roof height of at least 150 metres. LONDON STADIUM
