3 What is Green Card?  For any individual who wish to permanently live and work in the United States, it is required for him to get the United States Lawful Permanent Residency which is informally known as the Green Card. The individuals who hold these Immigrant visas are referred to as lawful permanent residents (LPR). One must generally secure a Green Card prior to applying for naturalization as it is the first step towards US citizenship.

4 Eligibility to get a Green Card  The applicant must have no security, health, or criminal issues.  The applicant must be permissible into the U.S for him to qualify for the Green Card.  The applicant must belong to one of the immigrant categories outlined in the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).  The applicant must secure visa before submitting the Green Card application.

5 How to get a Green Card?  Green Cards are either obtained in the US or abroad at a US Embassy or Consulate.  They are mostly available to individuals who have immediate family members in the US or job skills needed by a US employer  Yearly, a number of Green cards are granted to refugees, investors and highly educated individuals.
