2 Technology Areas Covered Internet Safety – Explore how to be safe on-line Computer Basics – Define and use computer related terms Keyboarding – Explore the correct techniques of keyboarding

3 Word Processing Microsoft Word/Publisher Explain the purpose of a word processor Manipulate text (font, style, color etc.) Create, add and alter graphics Edit documents (thesaurus function and spell check) Change document layout (margin, page orientation, spacing etc.) Use a variety of graphic tools

4 Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets/Graphs Identify purpose and functions of spreadsheets Identify the components of spreadsheets (cells, rows and columns) Demonstrate the use of a formula e.g. averages Create and modify a chart or graph of specific data

5 Presentation Software Powerpoints/Flyers/Brochures Identify the purpose and uses of presentation software Demonstrate the understanding of the tools of software programs and their uses(edit, insert etc.) Ability to cut and paste graphics from the internet Ability to present projects to their teacher and peers orally

6 Edmodo Accessing an educational social/interactive media site just for students and their teacher Ability to receive and submit all assignments electronically through the site Ability to view grades and teacher comments on the site Ability to interact with teacher supervision to their classmates on the site

7 Responsibility for Coursework Bring your binder, notebook, planner to class daily All assignments are posted on the promethean board daily or in Edmodo, an online teacher/student interaction website. A USB is optional

8 Student Behaviors Be Prompt Be respectful Be prepared Be a polite and positive participant. Be productive

9 Policies Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings, as class begins at that time. ◦ Failure to be an active, productive participant in class is the same as being a disruption to the class’ learning environment. Review and Adhere to Student and Uniform Discipline Policies closely. Absent/Tardy ◦ It is the student’s responsibility to turn in notes when you are absent/tardy; if they are to be excused. ◦ It is the student’s responsibility to ask for make- up work.

10 Policies Cont.’ Every student should have at least two(2) parent conferences this year; more if needed. The student planner is our lifeline of communication. ◦ If there’s no message; both parties can believe that there was no important message or question for that day.

11 Grading One grade a week will be a participation grade and the other classwork or a project grade. Grades are posted online at a minimum bi- weekly. Our Grading Scale 90-100% = A 87-89%= B+ 80-86% = B 77-80%= C+ 70-76% = C % = D Below 60% = F

13 Before You Go All students have received a computer syllabus that you and your child need to sign and return. If you have not received the syllabus, please email me and I will provide one.

14 Assists in preparation and evaluation of The School Wide Plan Decides how school improvement funds are spent Assists principal with the school budget Making suggestions relating to the improvement of the school in all areas SAC meetings are held quarterly Students are notified of SAC meetings by distribution of flyers, parent link notifications, teacher emails and the Somerset School website. Meetings are usually held at 6:00 p.m. in the Media Center 2 volunteer hours are given for attending these meetings Works hand in hand together for the success of the students and the school! School AdvisoryCouncil(SAC)
