SCRIPTURE READING Acts 4:8-13 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11 Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ 12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” 13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

GHOST STORIES THROUGH US

I CORINTHIANS 3:16 16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?

JUDGES 14:6 6 The Spirit of the L ORD came powerfully upon him so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as he might have torn a young goat. But he told neither his father nor his mother what he had done.

I SAMUEL 16:17 17 So Saul said to his attendants, “Find someone who plays well and bring him to me.”

ISAIAH 11:2 2 The Spirit of the L ORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the L ORD —

LUKE 1:35 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

I CORINTHIANS 2:4 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,

II TIMOTHY 1:7 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self- discipline.

THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES: 1. The Holy Spirit gives believers the power to speak and lead boldly.

ACTS 4:8-13 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people!

THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES: 2. The Holy Spirit gives believers the power to endure suffering and pain.

ACTS 7:54-60 54 When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” 57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES: 3. The Holy Spirit gives believers understanding.

I CORINTHIANS 2:9-15 9 That is what is meant by the Scriptures which say that no mere man has ever seen, heard, or even imagined what wonderful things God has ready for those who love the Lord. 10 But we know about these things because God has sent his Spirit to tell us, and his Spirit searches out and shows us all of God’s deepest secrets. 11 No one can really know what anyone else is thinking or what he is really like except that person himself. And no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. 12 And God has actually given us his Spirit (not the world’s spirit) to tell us about the wonderful free gifts of grace and blessing that God has given us. 13 In telling you about these gifts we have even used the very words given to us by the Holy Spirit, not words that we as men might choose. So we use the Holy Spirit’s words to explain the Holy Spirit’s facts. 14 But the man who isn’t a Christian can’t understand and can’t accept these thoughts from God, which the Holy Spirit teaches us. They sound foolish to him because only those who have the Holy Spirit within them can understand what the Holy Spirit means. Others just can’t take it in. 15 But the spiritual man has insight into everything, and that bothers and baffles the man of the world, who can’t understand him at all.

THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES: 4. The Holy Spirit gives believers leadings and promptings.

TAKE AWAY: Obey the leading or prompting from the Holy Spirit this week.
