3 The School Day Health Life in Year 6 Curriculum Homework Communication Catholic Ethos How you can help Staffing Miss Allen: all week PPA Tuesday afternoon covered by Miss Eaves teaching science Miss Eaves: team teaching and interventions Tuesday and Wednesday morning Written arithmetic streamed between Yr 5 and 6

4 The School Day Punctuality Arrival: Children are left at the gate, gate is locked until 8.35am 8.40 Doors open for children Children go straight to their classroom to begin early morning work 8.50 Registration begins Gates locked at 9.00/registers to office. After this time children must go through the office and sign in. Break 10.45 -11.00 Lunch 12.15 – 1.15 Departure: Bell goes at 3.15pm Children are walked round to be met in Key Stage 1 playground Trim trail and Reception outside area are not to be used before or after school or by younger siblings.

5 Life in the Year 6 Classroom Growth Mindset and ‘learning behaviours’ **effort, curiosity and resilience** Text rich environment – every child needs a book in school and at home Responsibilities and independence Positive reinforcement (work of the week, homework award, star of the week, class star, reading reward scheme, house points) Worry Box

6 Curriculum Topic letter - creative curriculum – purpose/audience/making connections Target tracker objectives for reading, writing, maths and science (see pack provided) Teacher assessments (see pack provided)

7 Boosters Written arithmetic – Wednesday Miss Allen and Miss Eaves team teaching and interventions – Tuesday and Wednesday Writing workshops – Mrs Thomas, Mrs McCluskey and Miss Allen Potentially Easter booster Potentially reading and comprehension workshop with head of English from St. Michael’s Secondary School.

8 PE P.E sessions take place on Wednesday and Thursday PE Kits must be worn, children will not take part if they do not have the right clothing or footwear. Trainers needed for Trim Trail and outdoor PE.

9 Medicine Inhalers- named/in date Allergies-medical form Parental supervision for medicines such as antibiotics that need to be taken in school hours. Head injury – phone call Head Lice – tie back long hair. Inform office.

10 Uniform Plain waterproof/warm coat (black or blue) No jewellery including earrings Sensible watch (test conditions – no bleeping) School shoes – no trainers please, only lace, Velcro or slip-ons. Names on items

11 Homework Either weekly tasks and/or project based… Please ensure homework is: o On time o Unless specified, takes no more than ½ hour per night. o If your child is taking longer than this on a regular basis or having problems with homework, please let us know. o We will inform you if homework is regularly missing or below expectation. o Spelling test - Friday o Times tables - Tuesday

12 Communication Teacher/parent communication and co-operation for the well-being of child Letters – wow, uniform, PE kits, school equipment, homework and lateness (after 9am) Telephone Planners – please check your child’s planner daily and sign each week. We will also check them.

13 Letters to return Home/school agreement Addresses Phone numbers Medical information Consent – photos General consent for local visits Take home, sign/fill in and return to school next week.

14 Catholic Ethos Prayers to learn Assemblies – rota Friday 2:30pm Mass – rota has been sent home Encourage respect
