6 STRATEGIC PRIORITIES 2016- 2018 Ensure that NAO's Governance structure and processes maximize organizational effectiveness and support NAO's strategic plan ​Develop revenue streams that capitalize on its network and financially benefit both NAO and its members Develop a comprehensive communications and marketing plan that keeps stakeholders informed and supports business development activities ​Create a culture of advocacy that: 1) engages all NAO members; 2) ensures annual inclusion of the AHEC Program in the federal budget; 3) grows federal AHEC funding over time ​Grow the capacity of NAO's human capital to achieve its strategic vision​

8 AWARDS COMMITTEE Process Categories – Red Koelling Award for Service; Eugene S. Mayer Program of Excellence; Andy Nichols Award for Social Justice; Centers of Excellence Awards - six categories. Nominee Solicitation – Call for nominations in Monday Updates and through constituency group emails. Review/Selection – 25 total nominations received. All nominations were reviewed by at least 3 committee members. Members did not review any nominations from their own state. Conference call to discuss results of review resulted in 8 award recipients. Notifications – Only named award winners were notified; Center of Excellence winners announced at NAO Awards Dinner. Follow-up – Committee did a debrief resulting in numerous suggestions for documenting and improving process moving forward.

9 BYLAWS COMMITTEE (Sunsetting) Michael French, Parliamentarian (MO) Robert Trachtenberg, Chief Executive Officer, Ex-Officio Bylaws significantly revised in 2014; implementation of revisions ongoing after October 1, 2014 Bylaws Committee removed in revised bylaws; Parliamentarian charged with regular review of bylaws to assure alignment with organizational needs and direction

10 COMMITTEE ON OUTCOMES, RESEARCH & EVALUATION (CORE) Strategic Charge Represent AHECs regarding data and data collection issues. Serve as a hub for information, tips, and shortcuts about performance reports. Collect national data for use in the NAO Annual Report and stakeholder data requests Help with data standardization Support members with technical assistance in evaluation Help to foster a culture of evaluation

11 COMMITTEE ON OUTCOMES, RESEARCH & EVALUATION (CORE) 2015-2016 Highlights Culture of Evaluation: Implemented national survey looking at promising practices for longitudinal tracking of AHEC alumni Annual reporting: Developed a national one- pager using the annual data collected from the 2014-2015 grant Different programs – shared outcomes: Matched core competencies with learning objectives applicable to the AHEC mission

12 COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE Communications Committee restructure & redesign of operational support for enhanced NAO Committee integration across disciplines and leadership. New Chair role established in 2016 that provides healthcare marketing expertise and is integrating with key NAO committees in priority stages of development. Evaluating new and updated media platform options for changes to now deliver combined support of value messaging for both internal members and external stakeholder partnerships for NAO and the National Training Center Support of the Biennial Conference and Public Policy Committees for communications support of event objectives through planning, coordination and production of necessary messaging platforms, with development of new advocacy toolkit materials (as seen in Countdown to the Capitol efforts).

13 COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE Communications Committee restructure & redesign of operational support for enhanced NAO Committee integration across disciplines and leadership. Future 2016-2017 redesigned communications infrastructure of NAO Committee reporting based on new Executive/Governance Committees strategic priorities. Cohesive communication alignment across all states to better enable identification and presence of NAO visibility as the National Network for providing top solutions for the evolving direction of the national healthcare administration’s key initiatives

19 DIVERSITY COMMITTEE Accomplishments Obtained diverse committee membership from Hawaii, Alaska, West Coast, North, South and East Identified several national institutions to reach out to including the Association of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and the National Council for Diversity in Health Professions Established collaboration with Congressman Butterfield’s (NC) Office: NAO represented by Diversity Committee at Congressional Black Caucus Symposium in South Carolina Established collaboration with the National Association of Hispanic Nurses to obtain financial support for student to participate at NAO Conference 2016 Developed NAO’s first ever workshop session featuring health profession students for the national conference

20 EDITORIAL BOARD 2015 Outcomes Request second call for articles related to the theme, “Creating a Sound Mind and Body: The Role of AHEC in Creating a Diverse Behavioral Health Workforce” Received five articles for review Disseminated articles to be edited by committee members Final edits of articles approved for release Authorized release to publish electronic journal Developed 2016 NAO Journal theme Requested call for articles for 2016 NAO Journal 2016 Outcomes Requested call for articles related to the theme, “Promoting Population Health: AHECs Leadership Role in Developing Community-Responsive Primary Care Providers” Received two articles to date

22 EDUCATION COMMITTEE Chair: Jeff Papke, Cascades East AHEC (OR) Bylaw 7.1.5 Education Committee - The Education Committee shall provide guidance and recommendations to the Board regarding the need for and content of educational programs for NAO and its members. The committee shall also lead the planning and development of educational content in programs approved by the Board. This committee is currently undergoing assessment to determine how it can best serve the organization’s need.

28 PUBLIC POLICY COMMITTEE How we meet our strategic goals: With guidance from NAO Board of Directors & CEO Fine tune NAO one-pagers to present to legislators Work closely with NAO CORE team to capture data and present it to policy makers in an eye-catching format. Weekly PP Leadership calls: Intelligence-based tactical actions Train membership to feel empowered to impact state and nation policy through, Countdown to the Capitol webinars, Action Alerts, updates, and dialog with advocacy leaders. Policy-based communications to Legislative and Executive branches Executive Directors increase visibility on Capitol Hill Strategically poised in dialog with partners and HRSA leadership

29 FY2017 AHEC FEDERAL FUNDING June 7, 2016 Senate L-HHS Subcommittee on Appropriations passed FY 2017 L-HHS Appropriations bill with $30.25 million for AHEC program (level funding from FY2016) June 9, 2016 Senate Full Appropriations Committee passed FY 2017 L-HHS Appropriations bill with $30.25 million for AHEC program House of Representatives has not established a date for mark-up; Sub-Committee or Full Committee -> House on recess until after July 4 th Holiday; possible mark-up in 2 weeks We likely will have to wait until November (at the earliest) until we see a compromised/combined L-HHS bill & perhaps an extension through November election via continuing resolution (CR) at FY16 levels is coming AND GREAT JOB EVERYONE YESTERDAY FOR OUR ‘DAY ON THE HILL’

30 CENTER DIRECTORS CONSTITUENCY GROUP 2015-2016 Leadership Team: Paula Overfelt; Chair Christina Mathis; Secretary Mary Mitchell Estela Perry Chris Gustaferro Aileen Harris Purpose: The National AHEC Center Director's Constituency Group (CDGC) shall support the professional development of all NAO Center Directors. The CDCG shall be committed to providing a forum and network for sharing and discussion and resources to facilitate and address the unique challenges faced by center directors, as well as assist center directors in the development and enhancement of their programs and centers

31 CENTER DIRECTORS CONSTITUENCY GROUP Highlights 2015-2016 Webinar for all center directors in March 2016 to be updated on the NAO Strategic Initiatives Center Director Compensation Survey completed and ready for presentation at conference Worked collaboratively with PDCD on several work groups, including IPE and Operational Guidelines. Outcomes were an IPE survey administered to center and program offices and CDCG and PDCG Guidelines were both revised.

33 PROGRAM DIRECTORS CONSTITUENCY GROUP HIGHLIGHTS 2016 Played a key role in strategizing and developing a letter to Dr. Padilla (HRSA BHW) regarding AHEC Program recommendations for program re-design For over one year, discussed strategies related to changes to the AHEC Program and initiated engagement with AAMC and HPNEC in the discussion Planned a webinar: “AHECS Preparing for the Winds of Change: Initiating the Dialogue”. Several committee members were presenters PDCG leadership regularly participated on the Federal Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary Community-Based Linkages (ACICBL) webinars and conference calls Promoted opportunities for Interprofessional Education (IPE) training and enhancement & shared resources Circulated updates, announcements, minutes and other pertinent information to the PDCG email group Regularly collaborated with the CDCG leadership

35 CDC HPV PROJECT 5-year project, $1.047 million each year Development of the National Training Center and a regional concept for AHEC collaboration and partnership development. Inclusion of regional staff to support and assist AHEC state entities One AHEC entity per state Each state tasked with training a minimum of 300 health professionals per year Utilize CDC resources disseminating key project messages and information to healthcare professionals developing and enhancing partnerships to expand the project Ultimate goal : Raising HPV immunization rates

36 CDC HPV PROJECT For years 1 and 2: 46 states have participated 308 HPV programs have been completed 11,558 health professionals and students Over 215,000 resources have been disseminated to health professionals and students 90% of participants plan to use information they gained to modify their practices to increase HPV vaccinations including: implementing a strong recommendation same day/same way vaccination implement/revise reminder/recall process
