13 Kymenlaakson ammattikorkeakoulu / www.kyamk.fi Multidisciplinary R&D&I Kyamk aims to generate multidisciplinary, strategy based research projects, which are tightly connected to teaching. R&D&I focuses strongly on special fields chosen by Kyamk. Measured by the total budget of all projects the value of the project portfolio is about EUR 12,5 million, of which the annual turnover is EUR 4,5 million. Kyamk’s 70 projects are implemented by 200 employees (approx. 65 person-year). Funding comes from various sources such as ministries, companies, municipalities and Tekes (Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation). In Kyamk all fields of study implement multidisciplinary R&D&I projects. Paid services and learning laboratories are also a part of R&D&I activities.

31 Let the good winds take you to Kotka! Kotka is a seaport on the coast of the Gulf of Finland. The city is famous for its parks and cultural life. Living in Kotka is low-priced and local bus connections are functional. The city offers many oportunities for sports and other leisure activities. Kotka Maritime Festival is the most famous summer event in the city. In summer, the archipelqago is easily accessible by public transport from the Sapokka marina. In addition to the archipelago, the city’s maritime attractions include Maretarium aquarium and the Maritime Centre Vellamo. Distance to the Helsinki capital region is about 130 km and to the St. Petersburg region about 270 km. In addition to traditional library services, the unit provides support for web-based teaching and learning. The services are mainly intended for the students and staff of the Kymenlaakso and Mikkeli Universities of Applied Sciences, and our contracting parties. The libraries are, nevertheless, open to all, and the library services are also available for outside customers with certain limitations. The library and learning technology services for Kymenlaakso and Mikkeli Universities of Applied Sciences are offered by South-Eastern Finland’s University of Applied Sciences Ltd.
