1. Comparisons We use the comparative form to compare two people, places, or things.

2. Equality As….as We use as…as to say that two people, places or things are the same or equivalent Examples: My grades were as good as my brother’s Claudia Raia is as beautiful as Adriane Galisteu. Fred is as tall as Mark.

3. Superiority More: We use the comparative form of superiority to say that something or somebody is superior. For most short adjectives, (one syllable), we add – er. For short adjectives (one syllable) ending in one vowel and one consonant, double the consonant and add –er (big – bigger, thin – thinner) For longer adjectives (two or more syllables), we use more…than. George Clooney is more handsome than Mel Gibson Joao is taller than Maria Math is better than Science Irregular Forms: Good/ Better ; Bad/ Worse

4. Inferiority We use the comparative form of inferiority to say that something or somebody is inferior We use less…than Examples: Danny DeVito is less famous than Bruce Willis Danny DeVito is less strong than Bruce Willis Danny DeVito is less handsome than Bruce Willis

Superlative form We use the superlative form to compare three or more people, places or things For short adjectives (one syllable), we add – est The highest mountain in the world is the Everest For adjectives with more than one syllable, we use the most…/the least… The most famous mountain in the world is the Everest This is the least interesting book I’ve ever read.
