Genre 1 Found Poem

Each group collect 5 words Collect 5 words from the novel that you feel really mean something in the novel or to the theme and story. Choose words that are descriptive or interesting. That speak of the themes of loneliness, childhood innocence, corruption/fakeness of adulthood, having a voice or lack there of, OR the struggle to find oneself.

Catcher in the Rye “Found” Poem Collect words each group pulled Choose 10 of the words Each word must appear on each line 10 words so 10 lines Use what you know about your novel, themes, symbols, and characters to direct the tone/mood of your poem

Holden’s Requiem Lost in this corruption, Blind to the connection, Time seems to stop. Quiet in this hole, Thought leads to pain, Crazy as it sounds. Innocent no longer, Madman’s cries abound. Liar to myself and heart, Childish from end to start.

Phonies During my childhood, there was a voice. It gave me lavish dreams of fields too innocent. I became a madman, My sanity was a lie. They are all phonies, Robbed of their innocence too soon. That voice in my head was no longer my friend. As time went on. I realized, I’m just a fool.

2. Newspaper Article Report on a topic from your novel like you are a newspaper reporter. Report details or conflicts. Discuss a symbol as if it were real. Use newspaper lingo/professional language. Include a picture that depicts the topic of your article. Make sure your newspaper article has a title. You can “fake quote” characters from your novel based on what they say and do in your novel. Your article may be satirical (as in you may talk very seriously about a topic that is not that serious)

3. Letter Letter should be written in the speech of the time period of your novel. Should be from one character to another. Other character may be deceased. Should include details from your novel, and discuss major conflicts in your novel. Your letter may: – Address how conflicts could be fixed/vent about them – Address symbols or themes from novel – Be a letter sent before the character’s death even if in the end they die – Be a letter that expresses some true feeling that the character is to shy or proud to truly tell another character – Be a letter to a character that is already dead before the novel begins

4. Eulogy You must “bump off” one of the characters from your novel. It can be a eulogy for a dead character or it can be a eulogy for a character that did not actually die in your novel but you are choosing to kill them. You can create a eulogy for a deceased character or you can “bump off” a living character to write a eulogy for. A eulogy is a speech or writing that gives praise and commends the life of someone who has recently died. Speaks to their accomplishments and personality. Do not forget to include themes are ideas from your novel. Create a travel brochure for the main setting of your novel. You should include pictures and colors. You can make a rough draft and take it home to create a brochure on Word. Word has several brochure templates. It can be sarcastically done. Each group gets a piece of computer paper to fold into a three sided brochure. Be sure to include important aspects of your novel. If you are doing The Catcher in the Rye and selling New York as a destination you should include that a benefits of New York are the ducks in Central Park, the National History Museum, and the carousel. MUST HAVE COLOR/ PROFESSIONAL LOOK 5. Travel Brochure

6. SONG or RAP Write a song with lyrics about your novel, themes, characters, or symbol/s. OR Write a rap about your novel, themes, characters, or symbol/s. You can write an original rap or song or you can take a song that exists and change the words. You will record this song on your I-phone or computer and play it for the class. You will create a timeline with symbols/pictures for your novel. You do not need days or dates unless that is very important to you novel. You will simply progress through the conflicts, symbols, or events. For example: The place Holden Caulfield begins at is Pencey Prep. You would start your timeline there and create a symbol for Pencey Prep. 7. TIMELINE

Phonies Paradise As I run through the rye I find I’m running away from death I take a look at my life and realize there's no one left 'Cause I've been shooting the bull and wandering so long, That all that’s left is phonies and all the innocence is gone But I ain't never jump on the back of a man that didn’t deserve it Me be treated like a phony you know that's unheard of You better watch how you're talking and where you're walking Or you and your phonies might be lined in chalk I really hate to race against the clock As they grow up, corrupt they be playing the, fool I'm the kinda G the little phonies wanna be like On my knees in the rye protecting children in flight Been spending most their lives, living in a phonies paradise Been spending most their lives, living in a phonies paradise Keep spending most our lives, living in a phonies paradise Keep spending most our lives, living in a phonies paradise

Timeline

8. Diary Entry Write in your character’s diary. Choose any day from your novel and any character. If the event happened in winter than obviously date it in a winter month. Some novels may have obvious dates while others may not. It is a diary so the character can speak his or her true feelings. Diaries are often reflections on events and feelings. Don’t forget to analyze your novel through your genre. Your novel has a character that is know for something. Write a resume explaining their strengths and skills or if they are known for being a big loser put those accomplishments down. Remember your 10 th grade resume format and reproduce that here for your character. Resumes must include: – Full legal name – Address/Contact Info – Experience (Job and other) – Education (School and other) – Strengths – Skills – Weakness that has been overcome 9. RESUME
