8 What is “community service” or “social responsibility”? Feeling responsible for taking an active role in understanding real life problems and addressing them

9 What is “community involvement projects”? Services/activities organized by a group of people for the benefit of the community. Example projects are “collecting recyclable materials,” “beach cleaning,” “helping animals,” and so on.

10 What is the aim of “Community Involvement Projects”?

11 Contributing in something you believe in Contributing to the community in a positive way Increasing confidence Learning by doing & doing something fun Developing new skills (such as leadership, team, problem solving, communication, etc.) Improving your English in class and real life situations Making your CV stand out

12 WHAT IS CIP? Community Involvement Projects at FLEPS aim to educate responsible individuals by integrating meaningful social services into classroom content. CIP engages students in projects that serve the community while building social responsibility and academic skills.

13 How will you participate in these projects? You need to choose the project you wish to work on. Projects are: * Rainbow (Environment Project) * Helping Dogs in Need * Give a Book, Give a Life * Discovering Turkish Cypriot Culture * Cittaslow Experience

14 * Meet with your teacher and peers every Friday & lessons take place in/outside of class *Discuss/write/listen/read about CIP experiences *Actively take part in the Charity Activity * Prepare a presentation about your project at the end of the semester and present it

15 Assessment of your project (10%) Attendance & Participation required in:  In-class (w eekly tasks about your project’s activities) ( 2 points)  Outdoor visits ( 2 points)  Charity bazaar ( 2 points)  Presentation ( 4 points)

16 Intermediate Students said: These projects helped us realize that there is a world outside The world needs such projects and most of the students don’t know about these It helped me to improve my English and realize my social responsibilites It was fun and educational at the same time All EPS ss should be involved to increase more awareness

17 HOW TO REGISTER Go to fleps.emu.edu.tr web page Under the CIP link, find more/ detailed information about the CIP projects offered this semester Choose a project you are interested in learning more about Go to your Student Portal and complete your registration between the dates: 9-11, November 2016 CIP starts on the 25th of November, 2016
