6 It’s possible for physical changes of adult life to trigger psychological responses. Those responses differ depending on how one views growing older. Aging means a gradual decline in fertility for women. Menopause- the time of natural cessation of menstruation, also refers to the biological changes a woman experiences as her ability to reproduce declines. Menopause typically doesn’t produce psychological problems for women. Menopause typically begins within a few years of age 50. Among women 35-39, a single act of intercourse is half as likely to produce a pregnancy as it would be for a women 19-26.

10 Men experience no equivalent to menopause- no cessation of fertility, no sharp drop in sex hormones. Men experience a more gradual decline in sperm count, testosterone level, and speed of erection and ejaculation. Depression, irritability, insomnia, impotence, or weakness can result from testosterone levels plummeting too fast and far. Most men age without such problems.
