5  Reparative experiences with teachers help children recover from the effects of violence and trauma  Teachers help restore a child’s sense of hope and purposefulness.  Positive relationships with teachers give children a second chance– a second chance to experience the coregulation necessary to develop self-regulation.

6  It is necessary for the health of the child and teacher.  Exposure to violence or relational trauma causes children to repeatedly reenact past traumatic experiences with teachers and other caring adults.  Model emotional regulation and control as opposed to mirroring the children’s behavior.
