8-30-16 – Copy the following vocabulary into your notebook. Objective 1.01 1. Apprenticeship – a person who works for another in order to learn a trade. 2. Associate Degree – a degree granted especially by junior colleges after completion of two years of study. 3. Bachelor’s Degree – a degree awarded by a college or university to a person who has completed undergraduate studies. 4. Career – a person's progress or general course of action through life or through a phase of life, as in some profession or undertaking. 5. Career Cluster – A group of careers that share common features.

Certificate – a document attesting to the fact that a person has completed an educational course, issued either by an institution not authorized to grant diplomas, or to a student not qualifying for a diploma. 7. Cooperative Education – an educational system in which students may earn academic credit for career work done in their field of study. 8. Continuing Education – a program of noncredit courses for adults regardless of previous education, offered typically by a university extension or institute. 9. Credential – anything that provides the basis for confidence, belief, credit, etc. 10. Hospitality - the quality or disposition of receiving and treating guests and strangers in a warm, friendly, generous way.

Hospitality Industry - a broad category of fields within the service industry that includes lodging, event planning, theme parks, transportation, cruise line, and additional fields within the tourism industry. 12. Internship - any official or formal program to provide practical experience for beginners in an occupation or profession. 13. Occupation - a person's usual or principal work or business, especially as a means of earning a living. 14. Pathway - refers to the specific courses, academic programs, and learning experiences that individual students complete as they progress in their education toward graduation.

9-1-16 15. Postsecondary - a reference to any education beyond high school. 16. Professional Association - a nonprofit organization seeking to further a particular profession, the interests of individuals engaged in that profession, and the public interest. 17. Tourism Industry - the business or industry of providing information, accommodations, transportation, and other services to tourists. 18. Tourist - a person who is traveling, especially for pleasure.
