1 SECA Open House 2016-2017 Welcome to all our Jaguar families, we are so glad you are here! We will have a short presentation here in the gym and then release you to your child’s classroom.

2 What is Title I and How Can I be Involved? Annual Parent Meeting Sheldon Early Childhood Academy September 8, 2016

3 Definition of Title I Title I provides federal funding to schools to help students who are low achieving or at most risk of falling behind. Title I is allocated to schools based on the percentage of student receiving free/reduced lunch. Schools with a percentage of at least 40% are eligible for a schoolwide program.

4 Sheldon Academy operates a School-wide Title I Program.

5 What does School-wide Title I mean? The school uses Title I funds to upgrade the entire educational program of the school. Title I funds are used to serve ALL children in order to raise academic achievement. Title I funds will be used to provide additional assistance to all students who experience difficulties in meeting the State’s performance targets.

6 To be a “School-wide” School: The school must have a free/reduced lunch count of at least 40%. The school must collect and analyze data that effects student achievement. The school must develop a comprehensive site plan and annually review the effectiveness of the plan.

9 Student Needs Research has shown that students are better prepared for state assessments if they leave Kindergarten reading at a Level D. Last year we began moving to this by setting a beginning goal of 65% - we met that goal. Most of this year’s Kindergarten class is coming from our full-day Pre-K program and are already the strongest academic class this school has seen. This year we are continuing to increase levels of teacher training to meet this benchmark.

10 Our Plans Additional emphasis for ELLs in English acquisition through our Dual Language program. Monitor and intensify the progress of Letter Identification and Letter Sound mastery for all students in Pre-K. Increase literacy skills for all students through a Balanced Literacy process that promotes independent reading skills. Implementation of the state-adopted i-Station program for increased interventions.

11 Parental Involvement Needs Parent Advisory Committee Improvement in early childhood literacy for all students. – Reading each day to your child – Practice letter identification and letter sounds

12 Focus Goals for 2016-2017 Campus Goal 1: Sheldon ECA will maximize learning for ALL: Students will show an increase in academic performance in Reading and Math to: – 90% of Kindergarten students meeting expectations on all district CBA’s – 90% of Kindergarten students reading independently at a Level C – Phased-in goal of 70% of Kindergarten students reading independently at a Level D or higher. – 90% of our Pre-K students meeting expectations on our end of year Concepts About Print Assessment – Maintain an Average Daily Attendance above 96% each day. Campus Goal 2: Sheldon ECA will ensure a safe and positive environment Campus Goal 3: Sheldon Academy will promote parent and community engagement. Campus Goal 4: Sheldon Academy will attract, develop and retain highly –effective staff.

13 Curriculum and Instructional Strategies Sheldon SHIELD: vertically-aligned curriculum Objectives taught per individual student need Students exposed to different learning environments and teaching styles Interventions grouped by ability and instructional needs through Response to Intervention system Instructional Coaching access for teachers Summer interventions for students who qualify Instructional feedback through use of T-TESS and Instructional Rounds Professional Learning Communities School-wide Positive Behavior Intervention System

15 Title I Parent Notification Requirements

16 Parent Involvement Plan The Sheldon ISD Parent Involvement Plan is included in the Sheldon Early Childhood Campus Improvement Plan, which will be updated for this year on our website.

17 Parent’s Right to Know – Non-Highly Qualified Teachers Schools are required to notify parents if their child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher that is not highly qualified.

21 Right to Request Meetings Upon the request of parents, the school must provide opportunities for regular meetings for parents to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children. The school must respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible. October 24: Parent Conference Day

23 Bus vs. Car riders Our car rider line is extremely long as many are choosing this over district busing. We have a strategic plan to ensure the safety of our students each and every day. District is working on a plan to get the overflow off of the highway. We sincerely appreciate you!
