EMS Transport Status Update by El Centro Fire Department

Overview Emergency medical service (EMS) provided by – El Centro dispatch – El Centro Fire Department paramedics, emergency medical technician advanced (EMT-A), emergency medical technician (EMT-B) – Gold Cross Ambulance paramedics, EMT-A, EMT-B – Mercy Air – Base hospitals

Sequence 9-1-1 call ECFD and GCAS dispatched ECFD arrive on scene and begin patient assessment and treatment – Number and type of response and transport units determined GCAS arrive on scene assist and transport Air transport if needed

Response times All stations < ------ GCAS- contract time to arrive on scene increased from 10 to 12 minutes Mercy air – To scene <20 min (approx.) – To treating facility <1 hour (approx.) Pt sign out due to transport delays

ECFD Based Transport Challenges County EMS has authority to grant – Have sole provider agreement with GCAS Cost – 3 ambulances approx. 300k in equipment and apparatus – Staffing- reconfigure current staffing and add staffing – Cost recovery 50-60% considered high

Future direction Community paramedicine – Discussions with ECRMC on hold Rapid response vehicles – EMT-B on scene to release paramedics Liability, protocol and licensing issues Co-location – Have had discussions with GCAS. Indicated not interested – Discussion with ECRMC to resume
