2.5 years of being a union! It was a snowy winter in 2014, when we offically became a union… What we have achieved since unionizing and negotiating our first contract? SALARY/ WORKLOAD/JOB SECURITY Salary increases, Merit Pay, Equity, Promotions More lecturers at 1 FTE Clear processes for observation & evaluation Longer appointments Gender / Equity Study getting underway BENEFITS Benefits have stayed the same, incl Parking, But we do have an interesting Open Enrollment coming… Sick Leave, Bereavement, Parental, Military, Jury Duty leaves…all established Pedagogical development $ and Leaves REPRESENTATION A Grievance process that is WORKING A seat at the table, a voice, respect… Interventions to prevent layoffs, etc Faculty Senate representation Lecturer voting in departments and colleges

Academic Year 2016-2017 New Minimum Salaries for 2016-2017 1 FTE Lecturer $54,240 0.88 FTE $47,730 1 FTE Senior Lecturer $65,090 0.88 FTE $57,280 1 FTE Principal Lecturer$78,100 0.88 FTE $68,730 Rank Assessments: 64% of us are at the rank of Lecturer 23% of us are at the rank of Senior Lecturer 13% of us are at the rank of Principal Lecturer And these numbers will keep growing with more promotions this AY FTE Status Distribution: FTE StatusPercentage < 0.751% 0.753% 0.8880% 1.0016%

A special THANK YOU to out-going Vice President Anna Sandstrom, in appreciation of her selfless service to our union by stepping in for our esteemed former Vice President, Trevor Verrot. Next election: February 2017 for President, Secretary, Communications Chair & one At Large Member of the EC

Union Membership Our membership status as of 9-30-16 174 Members 41 Agency Fee Payers 81% membership rate All enjoy and help fund the benefits of the union’s work: negotiating contracts, protecting members. Everyone is treated equally. Though only members can vote and serve. #s = strength Our relationship with AAUP is strong, and we continue to receive direct benefits from our membership in an esteemed national union

What do our dues/fair share pay for? UNHLU Local Union: staffing, office, communications, insurance, accounting, auditing, printing, maintaining website, legal counsel, arbitrations… AAUP National Union: Research, Education/Training, Legal defense at the highest levels, Publications (ex. Paychecks), Direct support for Organizing and Collective Bargaining, funds for professional devel, & many other benefits. *Also, less tangible, but even more important, the clout of having an esteemed national union at our back. *And, we are paying forward for other groups, the same outstanding support we received when we organized.

Still so much we can all do… Attend meetings/events/presentations Organize conversations within your department and college Visit the Website, Fb, Twitter and comment Propose/ write / take photos for articles for the website Speak up. Volunteer for the 2016-17 ‘CAT team’. Run for Office in Spring: President, Secretary, At-Large, Communications EACH and ALL of US = the Union

And now it’s almost time to negotiate again… We are now in the 3 rd (last) year of our CBA, with all the benefits (and complications) thereof. CBA II will be extremely interesting….
