The Love of God Romans 8:35-39 (ESV) 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. 1

Summary Romans Written by Paul the Apostle: AD 57-59 AD (From Corinth)  Purpose: take the opportunity to uplift and edify the church with solid apostolic teaching.  Paul corrects many false assumptions that the Jews make regarding their relationship to God such as.  The natural descent from Abraham and the observance of the Law secured them favor with God.  The blessing inherited from the Messiah’s reign were only for the Jews.  Salvation can be gained as a result of one’s works.  That the blessings of the Jews afforded a ground of hope that they would escape the judgment of God destined for those who reject Jesus as Messiah. 2

The Love of God Romans 8:35: Dramatic shift from operating in the ‘Flesh’ to living by the Spirit 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword.  This is not the Christian’s love for the Lord, but the love of Christ for the believer. 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” (Psalm 44:22)  Christ is faithful. 3

The Love of God Romans 8: 37-39 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. As long as a Christian is connected (not separated) with Christ’s love then he shall have the guarantee that he shall be with his Lord in heaven for eternity.  Satan’s desire is to have us to separate our self from God’s Love 4

The Love of God Luke 4:13 13And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time. Luke 22:3-6 2And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him to death, for they feared the people. 3Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. 4He went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Him to them. 5And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 So he consented and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of a crowd. 5

The Love of God Judas Judas=Judah=‘Praised, Celebrated Numbered amongst the Apostles sent out by Jesus: Matthew 10:1 10: And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. Had the promise of the Holy Spirit: John 20:21-23 …21So Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you." 22And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23"If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained." 6

I Never Knew You Matthew 7:22,23 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.  Walking with Jesus and Following Satan 2 Corinthians 11:15 15 Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds. 7

The Love of God Romans 8:7,8 7For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Mat 26:22-22-And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another, “Is it I, Lord?” Mat 26:25 Judas, who would betray him, answered, “Is it I, Rabbi?” He said to him, “You have said so.” Mat 26:49,50 And he came up to Jesus at once and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” And he kissed him. 50 Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do. 8

The Love of God Matthew 27:3-5 3Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, 4saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” 5And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.  Satan’s end result…..Thinking we are not worthy of God’s Love. 9

The Love of God Matthew 26:33-35  33Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.” 34Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” 35Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same. Matthew 26: 74,75  74Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the rooster crowed. 75And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly. (sincere tears of repentance) 10
