4 © 2016 Ex Libris | Confidential & Proprietary Introduction Alma comes “Out of the box” with standard MARC 21 profiles for bibliographic, authority and holdings records These profiles are in accordance with the official MARC 21 standards. In some cases, however, a library may wish to adjust the MARC 21 profiles. This may be due to, for example A.The sharing of records with another organization which catalogs records in a manner which differs from the standard MARC 21 rules B.Local regional uses of MARC which differ from the standard MARC 21 rules 4

5 © 2016 Ex Libris | Confidential & Proprietary Introduction In order to change the “Out of the box” MARC 21 profile it is possible to 1.Manually change the field(s) one by one 2.Add an extension pack and globally change one or many fields via an input file This presentation will deal with the use of the extension pack 5 Option 1 Option 2

9 © 2016 Ex Libris | Confidential & Proprietary Example 1 When using the standard Alma MARC 21 profile and saving a record imported from OCLC which has one of the unique OCLC values the following alert will be received 9 Certain institutions may wish to define the additional OCLC values as part of their local MARC 21 bibliographic profile.

10 © 2016 Ex Libris | Confidential & Proprietary Example 2 A region of libraries might use the bibliographic 689 as the “Angaben nach RSWK” (“Information according RSWK”) According to the “6XX - Subject Access Fields-General Information” page at http://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd6xx.html there is no standard 689 field http://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd6xx.html 10

An example of an existing field in the file can be used. For 689 field the section will start as follows (see full example in accompanying file): 14
