Accountability Reporting for the Community Colleges (ARCC) Comparison groups All colleges in California (108 for measures 1 & 2; 110 for measures 3, 4 & 5; 103 for measure 6; 109 for measure 7; 31 for measure 8) State-defined peer group (different groups for different measures) Region 7 colleges (14 colleges)

1. Student Progress and Achievement Rate (Percentage of first-time students with intent to complete who complete) GCC Rank State-defined peer group: 9 th out of 23 All colleges: 18 th out of 108 Region 7: 1 st out of 14

Peer Group Outcomes

2. Students Completing 30+ Units (Percentage of first-time students with intent to complete who complete 30+ units) GCC Rank State-defined peer group: 1 st out of 38 All colleges: 3 rd out of 108 Region 7: 1 st out of 14

Peer Group Outcomes

3. Persistence Rate (Percentage of first-time Fall students with 6+ units who enroll in the next Fall) GCC Rank State-defined peer group: 5 th out of 24 All colleges: 18 th out of 110 Region 7: 2 nd out of 14

Peer Group Outcomes

4. Successful Vocational Course Completion (Percentage of vocational enrollments passing with an A, B, C, or Credit) GCC Rank State-defined peer group: 6 th out of 41 All colleges: 29 th out of 110 Region 7: 3 rd out of 14

Peer Group Outcomes

5. Successful Basic Skills Course Completion (Percentage of basic skills enrollments passing with an A, B, C, or Credit) GCC Rank State-defined peer group: 2 nd out of 13 All colleges: 22 nd out of 110 Region 7: 2 nd out of 14

Peer Group Outcomes

6. ESL Improvement Rate (Percentage of credit ESL passers who passed higher-level English/ESL within 3 years) GCC Rank State-defined peer group: 3 rd out of 22 All colleges: 6 th out of 103 Region 7: 2 nd out of 14

Peer Group Outcomes

7. Basic Skills Improvement Rate (Percentage of credit English or Math passers who passed a higher-level course in the same discipline within 3 years) GCC Rank State-defined peer group: 11 th out of 15 All colleges: 91 st out of 109 Region 7: 10 th out of 14

Peer Group Outcomes

Basic Skills Improvement Rate Why is GCC’s Basic Skills Improvement Rate so low? Only the lowest level Math courses (Math 155, 255, 190) are coded as non-degree applicable basic skills courses, and students taking these courses are less likely to succeed in degree-applicable Math courses than students starting at Elementary Algebra (Math 141, 145, 146, 245, 246) For 2010, Elementary Algebra is coded as basic skills Result: Basic skills improvement rate will increase, but successful basic skills course completion (measure 5) will decrease

8. CDCP Progress and Achievement Rate (Percentage of students starting in CDCP courses who passed a degree applicable course, earned a degree or certificate, became transfer directed or transfer prepared, or transferred) GCC Rank State-defined peer group: (none defined) All colleges: 7 th out of 31 Region 7: 5 th out of 9

Statewide Outcomes

ARCC 2009 Report: College Level Indicators Self-Assessment The purpose of the self assessment is to summarize the ARCC indicators for each college and show how the college is addressing any weaknesses. GCC’s self assessment in 2009 included the following: Description of GCC Diversity of population Success of transfers/degrees and certificates awarded GCC ranks high among peer groups, particularly students earning 30+ units Basic skills improvement lower than average
