3 Out of Necessity… The NAACP was founded by suprisingly a diverse group on February 12, 1909 by W.E.B. Du Bois (___________), Ida Wells- Barnett (_____________), Henry Moscowitz (__________), Mary White Ovington (_______), Oswald Garrison Villard (___________ __________), and William English Walling (____________________ ____________. The goal of the group was to work on behalf of the rights of minorities including Native Americans, Asian Americans, African Americans, as well as Jews.

9 Outlook for the Future While the NAACP enjoyed a resurgence during the early 21 st century, it still faces many of the issues it had to deal with during the 1990s.
