School starts at 08:50; Students report to the main hall; Students should have either a packed lunch or money for the Downs Diner loaded via parent pay.

If your child is absent from school for any reason, or you know that he or she is going to be absent from school, please contact us in the following ways: Telephone The Downs School absence line (01635 270000), leaving a message Email The Downs School absence email address (absence@thedownsschool.org)absence@thedownsschool.org Write a letter for your child to give to his or her tutor, which will then be handed in to the Attendance Officer Please do not write a note directly into the student handbook, as it may be a week before the tutor reads the note and passes the information on. Please inform us of the absence as soon as possible, as parents and carers will be contacted on the day of an unexplained absence. If we are unable to make contact on the day of the absence, a letter will be sent out requesting that the reason for the absence be clarified.

Students who need to leave the school site during the day (e.g. Dental visits) should have a note in their handbook; Students should then report to reception at the appropriate time to sign out; Parents should pick up students from reception; On return to school, students should sign in again.

All students should remain on the school site throughout the day; Students who live in Compton may go home for lunch (these students will need a lunchtime pass); Students may only go to their own homes not to the homes of friends.

Form of communication between the parent, tutor, teachers, Head of Year etc.; Parents/ carers are expected to check and sign handbooks weekly; Houses important information: timetable, homework timetable, house point sheets, homework etc.; Students are expected to manage and look after their handbooks.

Students sign in at reception – instead of in tutor rooms

First point of contact is the Tutor; Followed by the Head of Year; Serious matters will need to be discussed with the Head of Year; Appointments can be made by telephone.

This is the first trip all students will participate in at The Downs School! It will run on the 13 th (X) ABC and 14 th (Y) LPR September; It is a fantastic opportunity for the students to get to know both their new tutor and peers in a fun relaxed environment! The form is in your welcome pack.

Ordering an EHIC card (European Health Insurance Card) would be a good idea so that students already have one for any trips abroad they may take part in; These are free and can be ordered on the NHS website.

Whole range of new opportunities and clubs.. House events – sports and music throughout the year; Currently, the late bus runs on a Tuesday and Thursday.
