2 Learning Activity Write your own definitions! Fact- Opinion- A fact is a statement about something that has been proven to be true. This may be done through research of found from other evidence sources. An opinion is a statement about something that someone believes to be true but has not or cannot be currently proven.

3 Student reading activity Find the fact and opinion! The blue whale is the largest mammal on earth and has a lifespan reaching up to 90 years old. The WWF organisation predicts that there are around 25,000 blue whales left on planet earth and that their recent decrease in numbers in due to over fish and disease. The average blue whale mass is 173 tonnes, with some individuals measuring over 19 tonnes. Some scientists believe that is all blue whales become extinct the number of fish in the ocean will dramatically decrease.
