1 1.Identify original research articles in peer-reviewed medical journals that focus on key questions about the prevalence, severity and evaluation methods used for identifying CONDITION in adults with DS 2.Evaluate the quality of the existing evidence, identify deficiencies in current clinical knowledge and suggest directions for future research 3.Begin to formulate practical guidelines to support best medical practices for evaluation of CONDITION in adults with DS. CONDITION may meet the United States Preventive Service Task Force (USPSTF) criteria for conditions with significant public health importance with the potential for screening recommendations to improve clinical practice. This may not be true for all topics The prevalence of CONDITION is reported to be (increased/decreased/unknown?) in adults with Down syndrome (DS). Evidence regarding risks, benefits and optimal methods of screening or evaluation have not been reviewed in the adult DS population 1.USPSTF. 2008. United States Preventive Services Task Force Procedure Manual. Gaps in clinical knowledge: Research needed to address the Key Qs ( in your Methods) What major gaps did you identify in the DS literature Identification (screening) or comprehensive evaluation of high- risk individuals? The use of adjunct diagnostic biomarkers? The relationship between CONDITION and CONDITION Y? Additional Gaps: Related Qs Risks and benefits of current standard of care (SOC) treatments for CONDITION Toward practical guidelines: for further consideration by DSMIG-USA Consider presenting some Draft Guidelines here based on such factors as Asymptomatic or symptomatic (considering severity) Presence or absence of risk factors or and other comorbidities Existing Adult guidelines for the general population Special considerations about people w/ DS Evaluation of co-morbid medical conditions in adults with Down syndrome: CONDITION - grading the evidence and identifying research gaps Authors (underscore Presenting author), Affiliations (Organization, Dept or Clinic) Indicate your degree(s), but avoid using your academic rank or institutional job description BACKGROUND OBJECTIVES/AIMS DESIGN/METHODS RESULTS/SUMMARYCONCLUSIONS REFERENCES Using the National Library of Medicine biomedical literature database PubMed (NCBI 1943-2015), we performed a literature search of the prevalence, severity, screening and evaluation of CONDITION in adults with DS. Critical key questions were formulated a priori to inform the search strategy. The MeSH terms [Down syndrome] and CONDITION were combined in both the title and abstract search fields. By consensus the following key questions were formulated: What is the prevalence of CONDITION in adults with DS? What is the severity of CONDITION in adults with DS? Among adults with DS can those at ultra-high risk for CONDITION be identified? What are the accepted, screening or evaluation tests utilized? Does evaluation for CONDITION lead to reduce morbidity or mortality in those individuals? What are the financial costs, potential benefits or harms of evaluation?
