2  MSC is located in the University of Basrah, Qarmt Ali Campus.  It was established in 1976 to be the only Iraqi scientific centre specialized in marine research.  MSC presents scientific research services and scientific consultations to the government agencies and private sectors.

14 MSC Marine Stations 1.MSC Shatt Al-Arab Marine Station The Marine Service Unit of Marine Science Centre is located on the bank of Shatt Al-Arab. It includes the scientific berth by which the scientific boats are anchored. A group of specialized marine staff is working there and various services are presented to the scientists of Shatt Al-Arab and the Iraqi Marine waters.

15  HSMR is the only scientific station located within the Basrah marshes and covers the eastern part of the Hammar Marsh (MasHab and Sallal marshes).  Equipped with facilities for conducting scienific research 2. Hareer Station for Marsh Researches (HSMR) MSC Marine Stations

17 Introduced Fishes: Introduction of fishes, mainly Chinese carp such as common carp, silver carp and grass carp. Native Fishes improvement of the induced spawning of Bunnei (Barbus sharpeyi) and Gattan (Barbus xanthopterus) and the production of fingerlings. Training Courses: (the production and fish induced spawning) For private and official sectors. Among the main courses were the training courses held in collaboration with Florence University- Italy, in which many lectures about the production chain in aquaculture were given by Italian professors. MSC HATCHERY  MSC Hatchery was established during the spawning season 2004.

18 MSC Scientific Diving Unit  This unit was established in Marine Science Centre in collaboration with Frieberg University, Germany, in 2012.  A scientific diving team was formed and trained to help in studying the benthic and reefs species.  The unit is supported with all the logistic facilities of the scientific diving.

20 MARINE CONSULTING BUREAU  This bureau was established in June 1993 within the administration of MSC. Its role lies on carrying out different kind of activities by presenting consultation to social, governmental and private foundations in the following fields: 1. Monitoring of environmental pollution in the rivers basin and Iraqi rivers and marine waters. 2. Developing of fish culture, population, dynamics, structures, distribution and food supply as well as fish food and diets. 3. Surveying of Iraqi rivers and marine waters. 4. Offering scientific facilities (field trips & labs analysis) to undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as visitors. 5. Implementation of marine projects of different aspects as subcontracts.
