October 25, 2006 (Class #4) 3 Click the "Sell" tab from nearly any page on eBay and you'll get to the Sell Your Item form. If you haven't already registered as a seller, you'll go through the quick process and be on your way. 1. Decide What to Sell

October 25, 2006 (Class #4) 4 2. Choose a Category and Title Based on the keywords you provide, eBay helps you place your item in the appropriate category with similar items. You can click "See Sample Listings" to research similar items before you start creating your listing. You can also choose to list in two categories for twice the visibility on eBay. Title your listing with specific descriptive details including the type of item, brand, model number, color, size, condition, and so on. Emphasize words that buyers would actually use to search for your item.

October 25, 2006 (Class #4) 5 3. Add Pictures Add pictures to your listings so buyers can see what they're bidding on - the first picture is free! Take clear pictures of your items. When you're listing, click "Upload Pictures." Selecting "Gallery Picture" is one of the best ways to get your listing noticed in search results.

October 25, 2006 (Class #4) 6 4. Describe Your Item When you describe your item in detail, be clear and create interest. Tell potential buyers everything that they might want to know about your item. Tips:  Useful details such as features, warranty, condition, authentication, history, and retail value.  Use bullets to emphasize key points.  Anticipate buyer questions. For some products, like electronics, tickets, and movies, describing your item is even easier. Just enter the numbers on the bar code and eBay's product library fills in a complete item description.

October 25, 2006 (Class #4) 7 5. Set Format and Price Select a selling format, either auction-style or Buy It Now. If you choose auction-style, consider setting the starting bid low to help generate excitement and encourage bidding. A reserve price is the true minimum you are willing to accept for your item. A reserve protects you, but it may also discourage bidders hoping for a bargain. You may also want to offer a Buy It Now price for a quicker sale. If you have a feedback score of at least 10 you can choose the Fixed Price format, in which the price you set is the selling price.

October 25, 2006 (Class #4) 8 6. Set Payment and Shipping Options Accepting PayPal is the fast and safe way to be paid for your item. Three out of eBay four buyers prefer to pay with PayPal – a great way to boost prospective buyers! As part of your listing, you’ll also inform buyers how much they'll pay for shipping. You can list a flat rate for everyone or you can provide the weight and size of the package so eBay's calculator can automatically generate the shipping cost. Make sure to check that the item location is correct and tell buyers if you are willing to ship to Canada and other international destinations.

October 25, 2006 (Class #4) 9 7. Review and Submit Your Listing To further increase your chances of selling success, please explore listing promotional features such as Gallery, Subtitle, and Bold. Click "Preview" to take a final look at your listing before you are done. Please take advantage of the personalized recommendations offered to help make your listing more successful. Click "Edit Listing" to make any revisions, then click "List Item for Sale." Review the fees charged for your listing at the bottom of the page. Remember: These are the fees for the listing alone. If your item sells, you will be charged a final value fee based on a percentage of the final sale price.

October 25, 2006 (Class #4) 10 Use the seller’s checklist Carefully inspect the item  Note any flaws, wear, or damage. Unless the item’s value would decrease with cleaning, remove any dust, stains, or dirt. Take pictures of the item  A good picture enables potential buyers to see exactly what they are bidding on in a single glance. Be sure to take photos of any flaws or markings. Write a title and description for your listing.  In the title, include the name of the item and any keywords buyers might use to search for the item.  In the description, describe the item clearly, accurately, and completely. Include information about the condition, color, brand, product type, model, size, and style of the item. Be sure to proofread and spell-check both the title and the description. Research the item on eBay  Use the completed listings search to find similar items that have recently sold on eBay. Notice the starting and ending price of items that have sold successfully and whether they are auctions or Buy It Now listings. This information can help you decide how to sell your item.completed listings search Package and weigh your item  Consider packaging and weighing your item. When you list your item, you can enter the package size and weight to have eBay automatically calculate shipping costs for you and your buyers.
