1 This is the true story … of eight parts of speech picked to live in a sentence, work together, and be studied by high schoolers.

2 To find out what happens when words stop being polite and start being real …

3 NOUN a person, place or thing Can be used as a subject The DOG went outside. Can be used as an object for a verb The BOY kicked the BALL.

4 PRONOUN A word that substitutes for a noun HE decided to walk to the movies. There is nothing for you to do.

5 ARTICLE Any word used to signal the presence of a noun A, AN, THE

6 CONJUCTION A word that connects other words, phrases or sentences and, but, or, because She was going to walk, but then it started to rain.

7 ADJECTIVE A word or combination of words that modifies (or describes) a noun Her blue jacket is really old. The temporary parking lot is looking full.

8 VERB A word that expresses action, existence or occurrence I ran four miles today. They decided their puppy needed a haircut.

9 ADVERB A word that modifies a verb, adjective or another adverb She walked slowly through the door. The orange snake slowly made its way through the classroom.

10 PREPOSITION A word that shows a relationship of a noun to another noun By, in, to, from, with, through She decided to come through the front door.
