1 The Third Trimester By Chad, Jasper, Kevin and Taylor

2 28 th week Fetus is 14 to 16 inches long Weight is about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 pounds Taste buds have developed 10%- 20% survive when born at this time. Organs are maturing Skin is still wrinkled and red If born at this time, he/she will be considered a premature baby and require special care

4 32 nd week Fetus is 16 1/2 to 18 inches long Weight is about 4 to 6 pounds Tremendous brain growth occurs at this time Most body organs are now developed with the exception of the lungs Movements or "kicks" are strong enough to be visible from the outside Kidneys are mature 50% survive when born at this time Fingernails now extend beyond fingertips

6 40 th week Fetus is 19 to 20 inches long Weight is about 7 to 7 1/2 pounds The lungs are mature Baby is now fully developed and can survive outside the mother's body Skin is pink and smooth He/she settles down lower in the abdomen in preparation for birth and may seem less active

7 Development Some things that form or finish developing in the third trimester are; the teeth, central nervous system, eyes, and the external genitalia

8 Teratogens effect of third trimester Antibiotics – Tetracycline can cross the placenta membrane and is deposited in the embryo, how this effects the third trimester is that it effects the teeth by staining them yellow.

11 Teratogens continued Antineoplastic or chemotherapeutic agents are highly teratogenic to the fetus during the third trimester as the agents inhibit rapidly dividing cells which is very important during this time.
