2 Objective: To review 4 specific individual assessments of prior student learning Military training- Skill simulation or Demonstration- Interview-based Assessment- Portfolio Assessment

3 Faculty's Role in Credit for Prior Learning Background Responsibility of Full-time Unlimited faculty not adjunct faculty Several colleges and Universities award credit for prior learning experiences- our competition for students Focus of Minnesota State System (MNSCU)

4 Faculty's Role in Credit for Prior Learning Concept map Assessment of Student’s knowledge, skills or abilities related to specific courses and competencies. Assessments will be graded

5 Faculty's Role in Credit for Prior Learning Concept map Assessment of Student’s knowledge, skills or abilities related to specific courses and competencies. Assessment should fit competencies of a course with an objective evaluation process. Demonstration Challenge examination Portfolio assessment Interview-based assessment Evidence of occupational training – such as Military transcript

6 Demonstrations Skills or technique Need to use formal criteria for grading the demonstration 1.Provide clear instructions for students 2.Equipment and materials available 3.Student is observed performing task in a specific timeframe

7 Interview- based Assessment Skills or technique in interpersonal or oral language Need to use formal criteria for grading the demonstration 1.Provide clear instructions for students 2.Materials available to student 3.Student is observed performing task in a specific timeframe

8 Challenge Examination Comprehensive examination covering course competencies Minimum proficiency 75% Knowledge based competencies 1.May not be enrolled in course 2.Limited two attempts 3.Credits count toward residency requirements

9 Portfolio Collection of information provided by student in a systematic format to validate prior learning 1.Cover page 2.Table of contents 3.Executive summary 4.Chronological autobiography 5.Current resume 6.Course competencies 7.Learning narrative 8.Documentation 9.Appendices 10.Evaluation response
