CalTF Action Items 2 Airflow decrease and refrigeration system response? Include power factor improvement in deemed value? Peak demand limit on direct install programs? Climate zone variability on refrigeration savings? Baseline SP/ECM mix, med-temp and low-temp mix, and weights for blended deemed value? 3 3 Airflow Spot measurements taken at store were meant as a sanity check and not intended for integration in calculations  Decrease raised the question of whether savings were largely attributed to decreased airflow Follow-up fan curve testing of all motor types (SP, ECM, and PMSM) was performed at AMCA (Air Movement and Control Association)  Non-profit association of professionals in the airflow device and measurement industry  Has established laboratory and field testing standards for fan airflow and fan curves.  AMCA Test Standard 210:07: Laboratory Methods of Testing Fans for Certified Aerodynamic Performance Rating that is defined by measurement accuracy, instrumentation, and method of recording differential pressure across a flow nozzle. 4 The blue PMSM fan curve to the right of all others indicates no decrease in airflow due to retrofit. This in turn suggests that savings are attributable to fan efficiency improvements, only. 4 Airflow PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 6/30/2016

Power factor not included in deemed calculations  Viable measure for customer without including power factor in deemed value rebate  Relatively small impact when considering total building load Direct install offering will be limited to customers below 200 kW  Smaller customers such as convenience stores, drug stores, and smaller grocers such as specialty stores or express format stores can be served by DI  Larger customers can still use the downstream rebate or perhaps EnergySmart Grocer route (3 rd Party). Refrigeration demand and energy dependence on climate zone was studied  Bin analysis modeling of refrigeration savings in opposite extremes of CA CZs  Showed an 18% variation in refrigeration portion. Since refrigeration savings vary between 29% and 42% of the total savings, the variation in total savings is less than 10%.  As a result, a single deemed value for all CZs is recommended. This is the same approach taken for PGECOLTG174 (refrigerated case LED lighting) PF, DI Demand Limit, CZ Sensitivity 6 PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 6/30/2016

Case type blend supported by ASHRAE Refrigeration Handbook and EnergySmart Grocer program findings  75% med-temp & 25% low-temp Baseline motor type blend based on interviews with refrigeration industry professionals  80% ECM and 20% SP Ratios can be updated over time by collecting information during program implementation. Med-temp, low-temp, SP, ECM Weights 7 PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 6/30/2016

Empirically defined by ET study Refrigeration system savings (1.4 and 2.5 COP)  Same approach taken in PGECOLTG174 Total savings is sum of both fan assembly and refrigeration savings Fan Assembly and Refrigeration Savings 8 PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 6/30/2016

Using fan assembly savings, refrigeration system savings, and weighting factors deemed energy savings and demand reduction values were calculated. Similar blending approach taken in PGECOLTG174 and PGE3PREF124 (case LED lighting and ECM fans) Strongly recommended in order to reduce programmatic complexity and to avoid freeridership onto a low-temp specific rebate. Blended Deemed Values 9 PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 6/30/2016

Per Unit Measure Costs (Installed)  Roughly equivalent to ECM cost  Vendor quote ranges from $58 to $75 hardware cost per unit  Installed cost is roughly $95  ER incremental cost: $95  Source: Manufacturer/vendor and refrigeration service contractor Proposed measure EUL  15 years  PG&E Fisher Nickel report 2005 and other workpapers identify lifespan of ECMs and SP as 15 years  DEER2014 GrocDisp-FEvapFanMtr  Would enable 5 year RUL for ER install type 10 Proposed Parameters PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 6/30/2016

Program Implementation 12 Program Goal: Achieve early retirement of existing units and ensure ensure that ROB do not re-install ECM, SP, or PSC Units: 9-12W fan assembly Measure Application and Delivery Type  Downstream deemed rebate per fan (ROB ER blend)  Direct install (ER) Eligibility  Climate Zones: All (negligible dependence)  Building Types: Food retail (supermarkets, convenience stores, pharmacies, etc.) Target Market  Any food retailer with reach-in refrigerated cases  Education and solicitation of refrigeration service providers  Could target supermarkets and grocery stores specifically due to their large market share Market Potential  Based on US Census data and ORNL estimates, there are roughly 1,965,000 fan assemblies of this size in California  100% market transformation would result in 272 GWh/year savings and 31.3 MW on-peak demand reduction. Program may cut out at 50% as measure becomes ISP. PMSM Fan Assemblies for Refrigerated Case Evaporators 6/30/2016
