8 The Nile River is the longest river in the world at 4,132 miles long. The Nile is different than most rivers in the world due to the fact that it flows north, this is due to the fact that the southern parts of the Nile are elevated higher.

9 Each spring, the Nile goes through a process of flooding which has benefitted people for centuries. Nile floodplains, low-lying land next to rivers, are important for farming due to the favorable soil. The Nile recently has become important due to its potential for hydroelectric power.

12 Egypt is credited with creating an intricate system of writing based on pictures known as hieroglyphics. Around 3000 B.C., Egypt was unified under one dynasty—a series of rulers under one family name

13 After the Old and Middle Kingdom’s rule, the most powerful of Egyptian rule, the New Kingdom, was created. Egyptian kings called pharaohs began to be worshiped almost like gods. Egyptians believed in a set of deities, or gods.
