5. If my student’s EFC is greater than $4,000, is he/she still eligible to receive Texas College Work-Study? Yes, as long as the student is determined to still have financial need. No award amount shall exceed a student's financial need. If I have a male student who is only 17 and has not registered for selective service can he still qualify for TCWS? Yes, as long as he register's at least 30 days after his 18th birthday. A Texas resident Enrolled at least ½ time of a full course load Shows financial need. Is registered with Selective Service, or is exempt Eligibility Requirements

6. If a student applied for aide using TASFA, and does not have a Social Security number, is he or she eligible? No. A Social Security number is necessary for a student to be able to legally work in the U.S. Who does NOT qualify? Athletic scholarship recipients; Students enrolled in a seminary or other program leading to license to preach for a religious sect; and Undocumented or international students unable to legally work in the U.S.

7. If a position becomes available at my Financial aid office can I fill it with a work- study recipient? No, because a work-study student may not replace a position that is normally filled by someone not eligible to receive TCWS.  Must provide part-time employment to an eligible student in nonpartisan and nonsectarian activities;  Must provide, insofar as is practicable, employment to an eligible student that is related to the student's academic interests;  Must use Texas college work-study program positions only to supplement, and not to supplant, positions normally filled by persons not eligible to participate in the work-study program;

8. For a student to participate in the TCWS Program, must the student work on campus? No, as long as the school has entered into an agreement with the outside employers. An eligible institution may enter into agreements with outside employers to participate in the general work-study program. To be eligible to participate:  A Nonprofit employer must provide 25% of the earnings received by the student and 100% of other employee benefits.  For-profit employers must provide not less than 50% of an employed student's wages and 100% of other employee benefits.

9. Can we match more than 25%, in order to award more students? Yes. As long as your institution matches at least 25%, there is no limit to a greater matching percentage. To process the exemption the following must occur: At the beginning of the Fiscal Year, a copy of your institution’s Title III and Title V wavier must be e-mailed to GrantInfo@thecb.state.tx.usGrantInfo@thecb.state.tx.us The State of Texas will honor your Federal Title III or Title V wavier which exempts your institution from the 25% Matching requirement

10. IF my allocation is less than 100K can I still transfer 10K to TEXAS Grant or TEG? No, because 10K is greater than 10% of your allocation. The 10% or $10,000 maximum applies to the account from which where the money is coming. If I wanted to transfer funds from TEG to TCWS, what steps should I take? Simply email the Program Specialist with your request. Institutions participating in TEXAS Grant, TEG, and Texas College Work-Study may transfer, in a given fiscal year, up-to the lesser of 10% or $10,000 between these programs.
