Wheel Drive A DRIVE WHEEL IS A ROADWHEEL IN AN AUTOMOTIVE VEHICLE THAT RECEIVES TORQUE FROM THE POWERTRAIN, AND PROVIDES THE FINAL DRIVING FORCE FOR A VEHICLE. IN MOTOR VEHICLES, "GETTING POWER TO THE GROUND" IS MOST IMPORTANT BECAUSE "TRACTION CAUSED BY FRICTION BETWEEN THE DRIVEN TIRES AND ROAD SURFACE IS WHAT MAKES A CAR MOVE."

Types of Drives  There are different kinds of drives used in common( DEPENDING OF POWER VTRANSMISSION.  4X2  6X4  6X6  8X8  10X10 26/2/2016 2

Types of Drives  There are 3 different kinds of drives used in common.  Front Wheel Drive  Rear Wheel Drive  All Wheel Drive. 26/2/2016 3

FRONT WHEEL DRIVE  Front-wheel drive (FWD) is a form of engine and transmission layout used in motor vehicles, where the engine drives the front wheels only.  Most modern front-wheel-drive vehicles feature a transverse engine, rather than the conventional longitudinal engine arrangement generally found in rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel drive vehicles. 26/2/2016 4

REAR WHEEL DRIVE  REAR-wheel drive (RWD) is a form of engine and transmission layout used in motor vehicles, where the engine drives the Rear wheels only.  he vast majority of rear-wheel-drive vehicles use a longitudinally-mounted engine in the front of the vehicle, driving the rear wheels via a driveshaft linked via a differential between the rear axles. 26/2/2016 5

FOUR WHEEL DRIVE 26/2/2016 6  Four-by-four (4×4) refers to the general class of vehicles. The first figure represents the total wheels (more precisely, axle ends, which may have multiple wheels), and the second, the number that are powered.  Syntactically, 4×2 means a four-wheel vehicle that transmits engine power to only two axle-ends: the front two in front- wheel drive or the rear two in rear-wheel drive.  Alternatively, a 6x4 vehicle has three axles, any two of which provide power to two wheel ends each. The number of wheels may be greater than six, as on ubiquitous ten-wheel tractor units, but the designation stays the same.

ALL WHEEL DRIVES 26/2/2016 8  An AWD vehicle (short for All-wheel drive vehicle) is one with a powertrain capable of providing power to all its wheels, whether full-time or on-demand.  4×4, also known as four-wheel drive and "4WD", reflecting two axles with both wheels on each capable of being powered.  6×6, also known as six-wheel drive and "6WD", reflecting three axles with both wheels on each capable of being powered  8×8, also known as eight-wheel drive and "8WD", reflecting four axles with both wheels on each capable of being powered  Vehicles may be either part-time all-wheel drive or full-time:  On-demand, also known as "part-time", where one axle is permanently connected to the drive, the other is being connected as needed  Full-time, also known as "permanent", where axles are permanently connected, with or without a differential.

Live Axle 26/2/2016 10  A live axle is a shaft that laterally connects two wheels that are rotated along with the axle. It connects to the driveshaft, a component of a vehicle that transmits energy from the engine to the wheels to turn them. This axle design is simple, easy to implement, and easy to repair.

Dead Axle 26/2/2016 11  A beam axle that does not also transmit power is sometimes called a dead axle.  Many trucks and trailers use dead axles for strictly load-bearing purposes.

Models Available With AL Defense 26/2/2016 12  The Different models available with Ashok Leyland defense system are:  4x4  6x6  8x8  10x 10
