1 BUSINESS OPERATIONS GUIDE VOLUNTEERS – JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT BIZTOWN

2 WELCOME TO YOUR STORE! You have been hired as the Chief Volunteer Officer (CVO). This role is important because you are responsible for: 1.Encouraging teamwork through communication and collaboration. 2.Helping your students understand their role as a citizen and a consumer in an economy. 3.Helping your students understand the business by facilitating discussions and encouraging critical thinking and creativity.

3 BUSINESS LAUNCH Introduce yourself, your job and your role as their business consultant. Assist the CEO in handing out Job Name Tags. The CEO will introduce the Business Overview Sheet and identify the team member that is to read it out loud. The CEO will ask each team member to introduce themselves and their job using their name tags. With your assistance, the CFO will enter the loan amount and begin the payroll process. Each employee will take turns filling out the Direct Deposit form.

4 PERSONAL FINANCE Checkbooks and debit cards can be found in the pencil box inside your business. Work with your CEO to show students: 1.How to write a $2.00 check to open a savings account. 2.Why it is important to Pay Yourself First and save. 3.Why you want to keep track of your account register. Use the Check It Out Guide on the next page for guidance

6 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT The JA BizTown Simulation Lead will: Direct the CFO and B2B employees to attend the B2B training. Direct the CEO and B2C employees to attend the B2C training. Direct volunteers to attend the B2B training. Bank Volunteers: Stay with all employees in your business for a special position training lead by a JA Staff Member.

7 STAFF MEETING 1.Using the Marketing Plan Sheet, help your team work together to develop advertising ideas and determine a selling price. 2.Hint: To determine a minimum selling price, divide the total loan amount by the amount of inventory received. 3.UPS will deliver your business’ products. 4.Prepare and merchandise your store in preparation for shopping.

8 SHOPPING Students will rotate on breaks by color. Encourage critical thinking by questioning strategies. Assist: −CEO to manage teamwork. −CFO to pay invoices and make deposits for all payments and sales. −B2C Employees to make sales and record on the Sales Log. −B2B Employees to collect invoice payments from all stores.

9 BUSINESS CLOSING Work with your CFO to fill out the Income Statement using the sales recorded in the Sales Log. Have students discuss the difference between Revenue and Profit. Work with your CEO to complete their Earnings Report. CEO will instruct B2C and B2B Employees to clean up, throw away all papers and wipe down all laminated sheets.
