~ The crime scene investigator oversees crime scenes, including homicides, sexual assaults, armed robberies, etc. ~ Preparing investigative reports & testifying in court ~Assist the Pathologist in Autopsies ~Preservation of evidence ~ On Call 24 hours a day

The medical examiner investigates many forms of evidence to determine whether a violent death was an accident, a suicide, or a homicide (murder).

"Wherever he steps, whatever he touches, whatever he leaves, even unconsciously, will serve as silent witness against him. Not only his fingerprints or his footprints, but his hair, the fibers from his clothing, the glass he breaks, the tool mark he leaves, the paint he scratches, the blood he collects.. All of these and more bear mute witness against him. This is evidence that does not forget. It is not confused by the excitement of the moment. It is not absent because human witnesses are, it is factual evidence, physical evidence cannot be wrong, it cannot perjure itself; it cannot be wholly absent, only its interpretation can err. Only human failure to find it, study and understand it, can diminish its value." (Paul L. Kirk 1974).

Some forensic scientists search for traces of material that might establish an association between a suspect and a victim or a crime. An examination of human hair can occasionally reveal the possible race of the individual from whom it came and the part of the body from which it originated.

~Requires a four year degree in Science or Criminal Justice ~ Some agencies require that you are a sworn in police officer but is open to Civilians ~ Job requirements depend on the agency you apply at

I plan on attending Rio Hondo to obtain my certificate in crime scene investigating.
