1 CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU LIBRARIES PILOT INITIATIVE Connecting Pro Bono Financial Planning Professionals to help people take control of their financial lives.

2 The Foundation for Financial Planning helps people take control of their financial lives by connecting the financial planning community with people in need. To date, over13,000 industry professionals have provided pro bono financial planning to more than 350,000 people. Financial Planning Professionals Pro Bono Education Only Approach Programs for non-profits and communities

3 FOUNDATION FOR FINANCIAL PLANNING & CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU LIBRARIES PILOT INITIATIVE The Foundation for Financial Planning is excited to work with the CFPB Libraries Initiative. The Foundation will manage and connect inquires to available pro bono financial planners in your area. Special note to Smart Investing @ Your Library grantees: FINRA-IEF grantees are prohibited from accepting services provided by FINRA regulated entities.

4 FINANCIAL PLANNING ASSOCIATION There are over 90 Financial Planning Association (FPA) Chapters across the country. FPA members involved with pro bono outreach are required to participate in a Pro Bono Boot Camp workshop. This workshop trains members to work with underserved populations in a no-sales/no-strings attached educational approach. 5 FOUNDATION FOR FINANCIAL PLANNING PARTNERSHIPS Financial Planning Association (FPA) Certified Financial Planning Board of Standards (CFP Board) National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA ) Pro Bono Financial Planners are volunteers and receive no compensation!!!

6 WHAT IS PRO BONO FINANCIAL PLANNING? The no-strings attached program utilizes pro bono financial planners with the following objectives: Advice given is educational only. Introduces participant to the financial planning process. Provides a one-on-one sessions to answer a participant’s questions. Review participant’s financial data. Establish steps to obtain the participant’s financial goals. No sales or promotion of any products or services are allowed.

8 DESIGNING YOUR EVENT Pro Bono Financial Planners can assist libraries in designing events that offer two key elements: Workshops One-on-One Planning Sessions. Workshops Leading to One-on- One Planning Sessions

9 WHY ONE-ON-ONE SESSIONS? A workshop topic may not be pertinent to a person’s current situation. One- on-one sessions provide a format that individuals can address confidential questions with pro bono financial planning professionals.
