3 Pushing Forces (negative things to push you from your home country) Poverty- tough class system in France Little hope for improvement Famines, diseases, plagues Lack of available land

4 Pulling Forces (positive things to draw you to a new one) Great chance for wealth and success (so they thought) Fish, forests, gold, diamond, and FURS!!! Help given by the king Lots of free land Freedom (comparatively)

5 El Problemos Ocean voyage (scurvy, small pox) Restrictions in fur trade (no immediate riches) Cold Climate Far from family and friends Tough lifestyle No roads, most travel was via water Few women – solution?- The Kings Daughters! (aka Filles de Roi) = single women (some orphaned) sent to NF to marry the dudes and produce lots and lots of babies!
