First personal computer game One of the first computer games was developed in 1961, when MIT students Martin Graetz and Alan Kotok, with MIT employee Steve Russell, developed Spacewar!

Classes of games Action Shooter Action-adventure Construction and management simulation Life simulation Strategy RPG MMORPG Sport Racing

Action An action game requires players to use quick reflexes and timing to overcome obstacles. It is perhaps the most basic of gaming genres, and certainly one of the broadest. Action games tend to have gameplay with emphasis on combat. There are many subgenres of action games, such as fighting games and first- person shooters.

Shooter A shooter game focuses primarily on combat involving projectile weapons, such as guns and missiles. They can be divided into first-person and third-person shooters, depending on the camera perspective. Some first- person shooters use light gun technology. The most popular shooter are Counter-strike and Quake 3.

Action Adventure Action-adventure games tend to focus on exploration and usually involve item gathering, simple puzzle solving, and combat.

Construction and management simulation In city-building games the player acts as overall planner or leader to meet the needs and wants of game characters by initiating structures for food, shelter, health, spiritual care, economic growth, etc. Success is achieved when the city budget makes a growing profit and citizens experience an upgraded lifestyle in housing, health, and goods.

Life simulation A life simulation game can revolve around individuals and relationships, or it could be a simulation of an ecosystem. The most popular life simulator is Sims

Strategy Strategy video games focus on gameplay requiring careful and skillful thinking and planning in order to achieve victory. Strategy video games generally take one of four archetypal forms, depending on whether the game is turn- based or real-time and whether the game's focus is upon strategy or military tactics.

RPG Most cast the player in the role of one or more "adventurers" who specialize in specific skill sets (such as combat or casting magic spells) while progressing through a predetermined storyline. Many involve maneuvering these characters) through an overworld, usually populated with monsters, that allows access to more important game locations, such as towns, dungeons, and castles

MMORPG A massively multiplayer online role-playing game is a genre of computer role-playing games in which a large number of players interact with one another in a virtual world. As in all RPGs, players assume the role of a fictional character (often in a fantasy world), and take control over many of that character's actions. The most popular MMORPG in Russia and Ukraine is TimeZero, Lineage II and World of Warcraft (WOW)

Sport When you can't be playing your favorite sport, why not play it on the computer? Sports sims put you on the sidelines and have you manage the team through trading, signing contracts, changing the lineup, etc, or take part in the action.

Racing Racing games typically place the player in the driver's seat of a high- performance vehicle and require the player to race against other drivers or sometimes just time.

Pure The latest and the greatest in the seminal WipEout series, 'Pure' distils the essence of anti-gravity racing and futuristic adrenaline- fuelled combat. Hi-tech weapons, hi-octane speed and a high-tempo dance soundtrack combine to deliver an explosive taste of the future directly into your hands. Supporting up to eight players via a Wi-Fi link for multiplayer gameplay, gamers will be able to take on their friends and attempt to blast enemy ships to pieces in a fierce competition for top racing honors.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The Zone is a huge abandoned territory, with twenty- year-old dilapidated buildings, overgrown with forests and anomalous vegetation. It is a territory with deserted surface and underground research facilities, neglected military bases and testing grounds for new technologies. The radioactive land is covered with sores of burned out soil, poisonous fogs, and deadly gravitational anomalies. It is a world of a terrible anthropogenic disaster, and in the center of this hell sit the remains of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
