It is only based on your Morrisby Profile results and on your answers to the MCQ (Morrisby Careers Questionnaire). There are many other factors that could affect your choice of career that cannot be included. Text in italics is general and bold text is personal to you. It is designed to help you make decisions about your future: whether considering A-Levels, university or college, apprenticeship or vocational qualifications, whatever will help you achieve your career ambitions.

The MP shows your abilities; the MCQ shows the kinds of careers and working environments that appeal to you. Therefore the MP & MCQ may not always reach identical conclusions. You may find you could be good at something you have never considered before. The report can help to explain why you prefer to do certain things, and how to make the most of your strengths. The more you know about yourself and your strengths, the better position you will be in to make the right decisions. Scores Categorised so you can see how your scores compare to others in the same age group, nationally. NB. An average result is not a poor result – it is the most usual result (i.e. 40% of population). The pattern of your results is more important than the level. Knowing how these results compare can help you making your decisions.

Shows how much better you might have done on a different day Concentrate on where the greatest differences are between your scores. Differences highlight what you do best and what you find most difficult. NB. Important information to understand, when making decisions about your chosen career.

Reasoning The Compound Series tested how well you understand new and complex ideas People who do well on this test can learn and understand new concepts quickly and handle complexity, but this does not always mean they will remember things or do well at exams Useful for intellectually challenging aspects of some jobs Can be a useful ability for science, maths or research Some people with high scores can sometimes get bored easily – will not like routine or repetitive work High score not required for most jobs

Perceptual Reasoning These tests look at how we handle information, and the differences between the three tests indicates our preference for using certain types of information more than others Some people understand things best when explained in words, whereas others prefer diagrams or tables of numbers Strengths in these tests can also underlie academic performance The pattern of the results can help to indicate the style of learning that might suit you best. ‘More’ is not always ‘better’. Pattern is more likely to predict success in a given area...

Mechanical Ability These tests look at different ways of being practical. The Shapes test is about your ability to mentally manipulate 2 dimensional objects in 3 dimensions, which can be useful for engineering, design etc. The Mechanical test is about knowing how things work and are put together. It is about mechanical insight, not learned principles. Also useful for engineering and technical careers.

A stronger Shapes score indicates a preference for dealing with the whole picture and planning ahead. These people may miss important details. A stronger Mechanical score indicates a preference for working in a detailed or step-by-step way. These people may lose sight of the overall goal. Where there is little difference between the two, it may mean that you are equally good at seeing the details or the overall picture.

Compound Series / Reasoning [Thinking things out] General Abilities [Using information] Practical Abilities [Using your experience] Some people like to work out solutions to problems from scratch, almost like a mental puzzle, or by thinking through the problem in an original way. Some people use information and knowledge to solve problems. This can be about what they know already, or what they can gain from researching books, manuals, internet or even asking an expert. Some people like to use past experience or adopt a trial and error approach.

You may be the type of person who prefer to use traditional methods of learning in an academic manner, using books, attending lectures etc On the other hand you may be the type of person who learns best by working it out for yourself or by observing others and developing practical skills. It is important to understand the type of learning that suits you best. This will help in making decisions about future study options, so that you make the right decision about course content and methodology. It is important to play to your strengths, by taking the approach that works best for you.

They explain how you like to tackle tasks – your ‘personal style’ or way of doing things. As important as your abilities are it is also important to consider how you like to use them. Some people like to stick at something until it is finished, while other people like to have several things happening at once, and don’t mind if they finish any of them. Some people are confident in expressing themselves, whereas others might have strong ideas but aren’t sure of themselves when it comes to putting it across to others. Some people are quite sensitive to the feelings of others while other people are quite tough and aren’t always as aware of their impact on those around them.

Awareness Rapidly checking numbers, names and shapes, to see if they are the same or different. Scores relate to the speed and accuracy with which you work mentally. Mentally aware people tend to be outward looking, perceptive and cooperative. Less aware people tend not to notice their impact on the world around them.

The exercise here is one of testing your ability to alternate between tasks, quickly breaking your train of thought from one task to the other. A flexible score indicates the tendency to pick up new ideas and quickly react to changing situations. An extreme score can indicate a difficulty to concentrate on one thing for any length of time. An inflexible score can indicate a difficulty to change direction or adapt to new circumstances. May indicate a preference for more structured working environments. 10. Flexibility

Inner Conviction Adding two letters to a pair of letters to make four letter words. Inwardly relaxed and self confident people do not hesitate as much when making up words. Those who are less self-assured tend to hesitate when faced with the task. High scores indicate a person who uses their capabilities fully, spends time on preparation and can be a perfectionist. May not react well to pressure as they need to feel prepared.

Tests the capacity to generate ideas under pressure. Those with lots of ideas tend to be confident and decisive, indicating initiative, public confidence, and the ability to take on responsibilities. May cut corners and not follow their ideas through. Lower scores indicate less outer confidence, and less capacity to produce ideas from the ambiguous nature of the task. Page 8

You may need to take one into account more than the other depending on the relative strengths. For some careers, it may be important to consider your abilities more than personality. These could be more technical careers where your aptitudes are key to the job. In this case it would help if abilities dominated your personal make up. Whereas for other careers, like those in performing arts, or jobs like sales and marketing, it may be more important to consider personality more than abilities. In these cases having a personality dominated profile could help.

If there is a difference between what you have indicated you would prefer or are interested in (MCQ results), and what you are good at (test results), then you should consider why this might be the case. You may need to refer back to the questionnaire and think about the reasons for some of your responses.

NB. Remember a score of 20 in (for example) ‘Advising’ is not saying you are very good at advising (although you might be), it is saying that you are really interested in it. Page 12 shows sub-categories of your preferences for How and Where you work, as well as Who you work with, again in order of importance to you. Each of these 6 sub-sections provides some additional explanation about your preferences, and what they might mean, based on the way you have answered the questions.

How good is the match between what you are good at, and what you are interested in? Is there a perfect match? Or is the report suggesting that you might be good at things you have never really thought of? The careers suggested (and the associated areas) on the following pages are based on your abilities, your interests and your personality. Additional information is given about each career, including relevant qualifications, entry routes and sources of further information. This information should help you to determine which sixth form subjects to choose, or what college or vocational course might be most suitable. It can be important not to close any doors or narrow your options too much at this stage. These are key decisions – so make sure you talk them over with your careers adviser, teachers and parents.

The careers suggested are drawn from a database of over 500 careers. Depending on your profile, some jobs match more strongly with your abilities, whereas other jobs may match more strongly with your interests. This list is not definitive. There may be other jobs to consider and you may have other career ideas of your own that are not included here. The order of the careers is not important. This should be very much the start of your career search. Using the information provided in the report, you should be able to carry out your own research and develop these ideas further. The online tools on the Morrisby site have also been designed to help you. Discuss your ideas with your adviser, family etc and form a plan.
