2 Common types Flashcard games: these games are played with a set of flashcards which may be purchased from bookshops or prepared by you and your students Ball games: ball games require a soft ball which you can use in class without worrying about breaking windows or hurting students Action games: action games require movement. They might excite a class so you should perhaps choose carefully when to use them. Craft Games Interactive games

3 What must be considered Age Level Size of a group Dominant gender Special characteristics (e.g. types of personality, psychological types etc.)

4 Flashcard games SS green (4-6 cards) Shout a word. Children touch picture flashcards on the wall/floor. Jump to the card. Go round, stand next to the card, name it. Bingo Game (pictures) Memory Game («What’s not here?») «Hidden Pics»(close with a sheet of paper and open very slowly) Take the card and do the action SS red (8-10 cards) Touch an odd card in the line. Put/point to cards in the right order (e.g. as in a song, a rhyme etc.) Match a letter and a picture Put ABC flashcards in the right order «Cold & Hot» Hide. Find. Use constructions. (e.g. Where’s the..?) Mime the card.

5 Ball games SS green Pass the ball by the music Hit the card SS red «Surprise» (ask questions those who catch the ball) Practice construction I’m.. I like Say different colours/animals

6 Action games SS green Listen and do the action Repeat the action (and name it) Mime some simple animals «A Funny Train» SS red «Simon says..» Object –action (pre- teach e.g. blue – fly, black – jump) Complex miming & guessing. Run to the card\object (in teams) «Elephant»

7 Craft Games SS green Stick,colour & play («Toys in my room») Line things and go. Make a robot (prepare all crafts yourself) SS red Cut, (stick,) colour and play (practice constructions, e.g. «In the classroom») «Cut and make a robot» (as for ex.)

9 Some more tips for game preparing…. Consider the time limits of a game The time you decide to implement a game (warm up, cool down) Games should be seen as learning activities The focus (a clear learning goal) of a game you choose. (Practice new ws, revision etc.) A good structure and understandable rules for students Don’t forget to give points, prizes if it’s possible in your game! Try to expect the unexpected. Be careful and attentive during the game. You are the conductor!
