4 Scripture Memory Games It is important not just to say a verse and forget it. We desire that the children hide God’s Word in their hearts. So, you can play these games using new or review verses. Note: the first four verses in each level of Olympians are the same for all age groups. Hot Potato: Pass the potato back and forth between you and your child(ren). Then stop and the person who is holding the potato needs to say the whole verse. If they miss a word or don’t know it, have them pass it to the next person. Pass the Box: This game is played like Hot Potato except a small box with candy is used. Whoever says the whole verse may choose a piece of candy as a prize. Stop and Go: Start saying the verse then stop and have your child continue the verse. Letter: Place the first letter of each word of the verse on a piece of paper. Try saying the verse by looking at your paper. Then start erasing letters. Balloon: Have a balloon to hit in the air. As long as the balloon is in the air your child needs to say the verse. When the balloon hits the ground they need to stop and restart the verse. Basketball: Have a basketball and as long as they are bouncing the ball have them say the verse. If they miss a word, they must start from the beginning. Have a verse contest: Both you and your child work on the verse together. If they can say it word perfect by the end of the fourth day then take them out or give them a special treat. Make sure you keep reviewing the verses that you have already learned. [You may want to have a special treat after each Olympian level.] Car Game: Sit on the floor with your child. Using the memory verse, roll a car toward your child. Then have the child say the first word in the verse and roll the car back to you. You will need to say the second word and roll the car back to your child. Repeat until the whole verse is said. Word Scramble: Place every word of the verse on pieces of paper and tape them to a chalkboard or tape magnets on the back of the words for a metal board. Scramble the words then tell your child to put them in order. Hide and Seek: Using 3x5 cards, write one word of the memory verse on each card. Hide the cards around the room. Have your child(ren) find them and then put the verse in order. Motions: In a small bag or box place several motions [Example: Stand on one foot, pat your head, jump, etc.] Have your child pull a slip out of the container. Do the fun action with your child as you say the verse together.
