6 Culture Integration as a Value Value of the organization must direct integration Cooperation, respect for all staff/work is honored This value is communicated early, often and to all: new staffers, students, partners Focus important training/planning time on this value

7 Planning Integration is key to planning Job descriptions and responsibilities are clearly understood by staff – interdependency is clarified Staff retreats are focused on outcomes, plans to meet the outcomes (time in the seat, comm. service hours, etc.), component goal setting and evaluation checkpoints

8 Planning Integration is key to planning In-service trainings – 2 one half day sessions per year and bi- monthly staff mtgs. are dedicated to staff knowledge and outcome measurement School schedules and lesson plans highlight integration (30 days before the lesson)

9 Implementation Integration is key This is the most challenging piece, but the most rewarding. Weekly department head meetings – ½ hr. before staff Weekly staff meeting agendas – case management for 4 students, schedule/updates, outcomes, reflection

10 Evaluation Integration is key Assessment OPT, PACT, Service hours monthly report Quarterly reports, DOL, AmeriCorps given to staff Tweaking for outcomes Staff step in to support challenges Plans to achieve unmet outcomes fall to the full team

14 Building a Program Culture that Prioritizes Literacy ALL STAFF members understand the significance of literacy and the relationship of literacy to educational gains. Staff also understand the relevance of literacy to GED standards and to prepare our students for the world of work. Promoting a culture of literacy is the responsibility of ALL STAFF. The education coordinator leads this process, but all staff members buy-in and contribute to the culture of literacy at the program.

15 Program Integration ALL STAFF members proactively find opportunities for students to use reading and writing whenever possible across program components throughout the entire program year.

16 Interdisciplinary literacy activities Journal entries in vocational training edited daily for grammatical content Speech writing and public speaking in leadership development Reading and summarizing biographies in American Worker Examining real-life issues through effective questioning and current events research Reading and discussing safety manuals/instructions on job- sites Reading and comprehending blueprints
