Introduction: The problem Long cycle time in the port of Surabaya (24 days on average according the research of student Michiel Sijpkens) The customer (Verstegen Spices & Sauces) has found metal and glass inside the bags of nutmeg Sometimes pests inside the container when it arrives at the customer. Research question: In which way can there be developed a plan, within 20 weeks, which will maintain the high quality of the nutmeg during the logistical processes and reduce the cycle time from PT Ollop to Verstegen Spices & Sauces by minimal 20%?

What has been done? DMAIC method has been used in order to provide structure in the report Research has been done in the port of Surabaya, Hila, the port of Ambon and the port of Jakarta Two scenario’s have been developed in order to solve the problems in the supply chain of PT Ollop.
5
Scenario 1 This scenario sticks with the current supply chain and improve the processes in the port of Surabaya. Procedures have been made regarding the following processes: - Sampling & Restuffing: A more hygienic way of working - Aeration: A new aeration method which reduces the chance of pests coming into the container A documentation tool has been developed in order to improve the communication and transparency in the supply chain. Checklists have been made in order to monitor and control the processes in the port.

Scenario 2 This scenario contains a shift in the supply chain of PT Ollop. Research in Jakarta has been done in order to find out if it is possible to transport the container via this port to the Netherlands including all necessary processes. Research to: Laboratories, forwarding companies and transport from Ambon to Jakarta.

Scenario 2 Laboratory: TUV-Nord Transport Ambon-Jakarta: Tanto Lines & Samudera Trucking Division Forwarding company: SILkargo (Samudera Group) - Can execute the following processes: - Sampling & testing - Restuffing - Fumigation - Transport to Rotterdam SILkargo has two warehouses available: Masaji Kargosentra Tama & Lautan Jaya Kumala

Conclusion & Recommendation Implement scenario 1: The cheapest and fastest option to solve the problems regarding waste, pests and the relative long cycle time. If the customer still finds waste or pests in the container, the advice is to implement scenario 2. A different route with new partners can have a positive effect on the quality of the nutmeg.
